When you lose 93 games, you've got to be open to any idea to improve your team. At least that seems to be the prevailing widsom in the Red Sox' camp, as Ben Cherington imparted during an interview with WEEI on Thursday. Case in point, when asked specifically about the chances of bringing back Kevin Youkilis, the GM remained open to the possibility, noting not just Youkilis' success in Boston, but calling him someone the organization has "respect" for. With Bobby Valentine now out of Fenway, such a scenario seems plausible, but neither side has actually broached the idea, according to ESPN Boston. "We're not shutting the door on talent of any kind," said Cherington. "[Youkilis is] a guy who has done well here in the past, but it's part of an offseason landscape and we're considering all sorts of alternatives at first base and other positions. Beyond that, I really can't comment on it but we're not going to shut the door on any potential player that has a chance to make us better. "On a personal level, certainly nothing happened that would -- there was no break in the relationship -- but he'll have choices and we'll have choices and we'll see where the offseason takes us." In the interview Cherington touches on Cody Ross, the now seemingly completed David Ortiz deal and other subjects. Listen to the entire chat below. Watch this at WEEI
