The Red Sox are taking a selective approach to this year’s thin free agent pool.
Ben Cherington said the team is trying to keep a young core, so they’re trying to find players in free agency that are either just entering their prime, or can produce well into their 30s. By Cherington’s remarks it seems that, as you can imagine, the Red Sox’s focus in free agency will be in acquiring outfielders, pitchers and a first baseman.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe told NESN’s Tom Caron it will be a difficult task finding players that will fit together, and can produce for a while in this thin free agent class. Watch all of Cherington’s remarks in the video above from Red Sox Now, as well as analysis from Cafardo and Caron.
