A doubleheader split has never felt so good. Game 1 was a typical Pirates-Brewers game. Jeff Karstens pitched pretty well, but allowed two runs in maddening fashion when he intentionally walked .174 hitter Craig Counsell to load the bases and face pitcher Chris Narveson. Narveson dumped a single into right to drive in two. He also pitched out of trouble a couple of times, as the Bucs displayed poor situational hitting wasting a leadoff double and a one-out triple. Karstens went 7 strong with that as his only blip, but things got really ugly in the 8th, when Tony Watson took over. With two outs and nobody on, the game fell apart as 5 Brewers in a row reached base (4 runs). Joe Beimel made it all the worse in the 9th, serving up a Ryan Braun HR. The only offense came from Ryan Ludwick, who made his first Bucco HR a meaningless one (although he did pound it into the second deck of bleachers). The second game looked to be infinitely worse.
