The Yankees make a move that maybe the Giants should have, or should I say, the Mariners make a move that maybe the Giants should have, trading an up and coming young pitcher for a hitter I believe has the chance to be an MVP candidate fort he next ten years. …. After trying forever to talk the Mariners into trading Felix Hernandez, (Brian) Cashman instead convinced them to give up Michael Pineda, the 6-foot-7, 98-mph throwing righthander with seemingly unlimited potential, for Jesus Montero. Watching Montero explode onto the scene last season, it sure seems like a big risk. Pineda faded badly down the stretch last season, after making the All Star game. Mariners Take Rare Mulligan With Montero

When the Seattle Mariners dealt left-hander Cliff Lee to the Texas Rangers for a package centered around first baseman Justin Smoak, my initial reaction was surprise – the New York Yankees were in the hunt and had apparently offered their top prospect, only to be rebuffed at the 11th hour. In March, a spring training piece I wrote on Montero included even stronger sentiment...

Managing Expectations With Michael Pineda

It’s hard to not to be excited about Michael Pineda wearing pinstripes. He’s young, has top-of-the-rotation upside, and controllable for the next five years. For all the celebration regarding the deal, Pineda isn’t a perfect...
