Well, it took forever, but David Ortiz has finally busted his slump. We'll let you contemplate the ways.
In the fifth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Boston Red Sox designated hitter nailed a two-run shot off rookie Brett Cecil to straightaway center for his first longball in 149 at-bats —- the longest homerless drought of his career. That marks one home run on the year for Ortiz, and yes, it's May 20th.
After grounding out and striking out in his first two at-bats, his batting average plummeted to .200. (Yikes!)
Once he crossed the plate, Ortiz was embraced by Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis before being hugged by manager Terry Francona in the dugout. Awwwwww... welcome back Big Papi.
