The Boxing Stop:
Call it home town craziness. Call it a hunch. Call it a prophecy.
Ok, the last one may be a tad too much.
Call it whatever you want, but you can be sure it's gonna be a upset when Juan Diaz defeats Juan Manuel Marquez in Houston this Saturday night.
Book it.
How's he going to do it? Easy.
1. Diaz will out hustle him.
Juan Diaz is going to be charged up fighting for THE world title in front of his home crowd. Factor in his already brisk work rate and you have an unstoppable force.
2. Diaz will dig to the body.
This could be reason 1a, but body work is so important that it deserves its own number. Diaz will dig to the body early to slow down the technically proficient Marqez. He'll throw bombs upstairs in the later rounds.
3. Marquez will be over confident.
Look, Marquez is the kind of fighter to only get up for the biggest fights. Marquez thinks he beat Manny Pacquiao last time out and I'm sure he is feeling even better about himself after watching Pacman destroy De La Hoya. All the better for the upset, methinks....
