LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chad Billingsley shrugged off an inside-the-park home run by Eric Young Jr. on his fourth pitch of the game to win his fourth straight start, Matt Kemp hit a three-run homer and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-4 on Wednesday night to avoid a three-game sweep by baseball's worst pitching staff. Billingsley (8-9) was charged with four runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings and struck out five against a starting lineup that included five rookie position players. The right-hander has a 2.02 ERA in his last four starts, after going 0-5 with a 6.21 ERA in his previous five outings and landing on the disabled list because of elbow pain. He has never won more than four consecutive starts during his seven-year career. Ronald Belisario pitched a hitless eighth and Kenley Jansen got three outs for his 22nd save in 28 attempts.

Billingsley earns his spot in Dodgers win

LOS ANGELES -- Chad Billingsley has returned to formand just in time. In time for the Dodgers to find another reliable starter as the pennant race begins to take serious shape. In time to show the Dodgers and the rest of the baseball world that the 2007 and 2008 seasonswhen he was a combined 28-15weren't flukes. And just in time to save his position in the starting rotation...

Dodgers troll Jerry Sands by recalling him for one start

My fondness of Tony Gwynn is no secret. When the Dodgers signed him to a 2-year deal this winter, I was all in favor of it. But when the Dodgers acquired Shane Victorino from the Phillies, Gwynn's designation was inevitable. Gwynn still has value to a team. His defense in center field is elite, his speed off the bench is something that's coveted late in games and...

Shane Victorino Is Just What The Dodgers Need

I don’t know how many of you heard this story, but ESPN Los Angeles reporter Arash Markazi recently reported that in the Dodgers clubhouse Shane Victorino had some words to share with James Loney and anyone else in the clubhouse who was listening. Shane said, “You MFers better show up earlier”. Now I know there are going to be some people who are going to say “who died...

Bobby Abreu to join Tony Gwynn Jr. in triple-A

Old left-handed outfielders never die, they just go back to the minors. Bobby Abreu is following Tony Gwynn Jr. to the Dodgers triple-A team in Albuquerque. Both cleared waivers after the Dodgers designated them for assignment following the arrival of Shane Victorino as their everyday left-fielder. The Dodgers announced after Wednesdays game that Gwynn had cleared waivers and...

Dodgers 6, Rockies 4

Shane Victorino to Teammates: "You MFers Better Show Up Earlier"; Shane Wants to Re-Sign With Dodgers

Shane Victorino has already taken a role as a leader in the Dodgers clubhouse.  I missed this on Sunday, but Shane seems to have taken issue with James Loney in the Dodgers' clubhouse, according to ESPN Los Angeles reporter Arash Markazi: If that is the case, consider me impressed.   Also from ESPN Los Angeles, Victorino says that he hopes to re-sign with the Dodgers. ...

The Dodgers are to blame for KStew cheating on RPatz? I'm not surprised.

If you are anything like me, you are obviously pretty broken hearted over this whole KStew cheating on RPatz thing. I haven't been able to eat for weeks. I've barely slept a wink. People may confuse me with that of a homeless person, as I haven't showered or shaved in weeks. WHY KSTEW!?!?! WHY!?!?! There had to be more to this! They seemed like such a happy (horrible...

Marlins set to host Hanley, Dodgers

Hanley Ramirez is making his return to Miami, where Jose Reyes will have to start a new hitting streak. Ramirez and the Los Angeles Dodgers begin a three-game set Friday night against the Marlins after Reyes had the majors' longest hit streak snapped one day earlier. Miami (51-61) dealt Ramirez to Los Angeles (60-52) on July 25 along with left-handed reliever Randy Choate for...

GIFcap: Gonzalez Robs Loney, Kemp Returns Favor, Dodgers Fan Does Bernie In Stands

Poor James Loney, as if getting hits wasn’t hard enough for him, Carlos Gonzalez had to go and do that. At least Matt Kemp managed to get one back for the team. @chadmoriyama good gif material of the kids shaking their chests when CarGo strikes out in the 9th — Steve Takahashi (@TheSteveTaka) August 8,

Vin Scully says the cutest curse words

Your browser does not support iframes. Legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully is no stranger to witnessing questionable calls. But during the Dodgers-Rockies game Monday night, his attempt at lip reading an infuriated manager may have been new ground even more him. Shane Victorino came up to the plate for the Dodgers and lined a shot to Rockies centerfielder Dexter Fowler...

Dodgers can't find offense in loss to Rockies

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Rockies rookie Jeff Rutledge drove in three runs and had three doubles among his career-high four hits, leading Colorado to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night. Josh Roenicke (4-0) pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the victory. The right-hander took over for Alex White, who threw 80 pitches in four innings and allowed one hit...

Trivia Time

I was talking with a co-worker this morning about Bobby Abreu being designated for assignment by the Dodgers and possibly accepting a demotion to the minors.  As we recalled our memories of Abreu I brought up that he had a couple 30/30 seasons with the Phillies (31 HR/36 SB 2001 & 30 HR/40 SB 2004).  That lead us to quizzing each other on MLB 40/40 club members and we were...
