Centerfielder B.J. Upton had a week to accept or decline the Rays’ qualifying offer he was sent last Friday. Today, his agent advised Tampa Bay they will be pursuing other offers in free agency.  Upton’s agent, Larry Reynolds, told the Rays the following, via Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times: At this point, we just feel it’s time to explore the free-agent process, and that’s what we’ll do. Several reports out of Philadelphia this week had the Phillies pursuing Upton, saying he is the right handed bat the team has been looking for. National outlets have tied the Rays to B.J.’s younger brother Justin this week saying a trade is possible to acquire the other Upton from Arizona. Hellickson and Shields have been the two names commonly rumored to be possible options for a trade. For declining the offer, any team that signs Upton will have to give up a first round draft pick to the Rays. (Photo credit: Getty Images) The post B.J. Sources: 80-20 chance of Upton trade

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Once again, the Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to trade right fielder Justin Upton. Maybe the third time will be a charm. The Diamondbacks discussed moving Upton at the 2010 general managers' meetings and also before the July 31 non-waiver deadline last season. Ken Kendrick, the team's managing general partner, told a Phoenix radio station in October...

On today's show, TMoney discusses whether or not former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder BJ Upton is on the priority list for the Philadelphia Phillies.  He also delves into all the areas that the Phillies should continue consider priorities. Justin Upton is going to be traded, and it makes no sense

The Arizona Diamondbacks seem to be locked in to trading Justin Upton this winter. Hell, Upton might even be dealt by Thanksgiving at the rate rumors are heating up around him. This is absolutely infuriating to me as a baseball fan. Upton is 25-years old, a former top overall pick in the MLB Draft, and is signed through the next three seasons, making a total of roughly $39 million...

Justin Upton Remains One of Most Enigmatic Players in Baseball, Represents Risky Trade Proposition

Justin Upton was supposed to be Mike Trout. Taken No. 1 overall in the 2005 amateur draft, Upton was promoted to the big leagues just over two years later by August 2007 at the age of 19, and the world was expected — to a degree rightfully so. While Upton was still a teenager upon arriving in The Show, he didn’t only have all the skills to be successful at that age, but he had...

The Justin Upton Rumors Are Back

During the summer, there were rumors that the Arizona Diamondbacks were shopping Justin Upton. The Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the teams linked to Upton, although nothing came of the rumors and Arizona kept their young outfielder. In what seems to be an off-season tradition, the rumors that the Diamondbacks are shopping Upton have started again. Once again, the Pirates are involved...

Sherman: Yanks not in on Justin Upton

From Joel Sherman: The Yankees are so serious about dropping under that $189 million luxury tax threshold for 2014 that, according to a source briefed on their plans, they would not even do a two-year contract in the $20 million range with Torii Hunter, The Post has learned. Though Arizona’s Justin Upton has become available at the GM Meetings, a person involved in discussions...

Report: Justin Upton Could be Trade Target for Red Sox

Justin Upton has the Red Sox on his no-trade list, but that may not prohibit Boston from pursuing a trade. The Arizona Diamondbacks are shopping Upton, and the Red Sox are expected to explore the trade market for the young outfielder according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. Fox Sports was the first to report that Upton was on the trading block for the third straight year...

Phillies Looking For A B.J. Upton

It is getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving, and Philadelphia hasn't heard a peep out of Ruben Amaro Jr...until now.  At the GM meetings, Ruben wasn't expecting to make any major moves, but maybe lay the groundwork.  On Thursday night, the Phillies general amnager did just that, as he has been communicating with outfielder B.J. Upton's agent.   With Josh Hamilton...

Upton trade no certainty, but options aplenty

PHOENIX -- The general managers' meetings ended Friday as they began, with Diamondbacks big name and big bopper Justin Upton available but unmoved. D-backs GM Kevin Towers has yet to find a deal he cannot refuse, although that does not mean seeds were not sown in Indians Wells, Calif. Arizona presidentCEO Derrick Hall said it is too early to set odds on Upton returning next...

MLB Rumors: Will Arizona Diamondbacks Trade Justin Upton To Texas Rangers For Elvis Andrus?

Could the Arizona Diamondbacks finally trade outfielder Justin Upton this offseason? They have talked about it for years now. In an offseason that could feature equally as many blockbuster trades as free agent signings, Upton could be one of many players who finds a new home for the 2013 MLB season. Another player whose name is being mentioned a lot as of late is Texas Rangers shortstop...

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. in Talks with B.J. Upton's Agent

According to a report from CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are in communications with free agent B.J. Upton's agent, Larry Reynolds. Upton is the ideal outfielder for the Phillies. The 28 year old, right handed hitter can play the field well, hit for power, and bring home runs, which is exactly what the Phillies' lineup needs in 2013. Without hitters like Hunter...

B.J. Upton one of many to reject offers

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) -- Josh Hamilton, B.J. Upton and Kyle Lohse were among nine free agents who turned down 13.3 million offers from their former clubs Friday as the annual general managers' ended and team officials headed home for what figures to be a busy month of negotiations. Also rejecting the one-year guaranteed offers were the New York Yankees' trio of Nick...

The Day in the D: Detroit Tigers Pursuing Justin Upton? Plus, the Latest on Anibal Sanchez

Upton a good fit for Hamilton vacancy in Texas

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- My message to the Texas Rangers when they lose Josh Hamilton will be the same as it was to the St. Louis Cardinals when they lost Albert Pujols. Happy Independence Day. Nothing against Hamilton and Pujols both are incredible talents. But just as the Cardinals were better off avoiding a mega-deal for Pujols, the Rangers will be better off avoiding one for...

Tigers’ considering trading for Justin Upton isn’t far fetched

Thursday, it was reported by Jim Bowden of ESPN and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that some MLB executives around the league believe the Tigers could be discussing with the Diamondbacks for outfielder Justin Upton. The rumor of a Justin Upton deal to Det in a package that included Castellanos, A.Garcia & Smyly definitely makes sense if Dbacks add piece — JIM BOWDEN (@JimBowdenESPNxm...
