The Braves did little more against Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez managing just a run on a ground out by Andeltron Simmons that scored Dan Uggla in the third. It would take extra innings to decide the game and the bat of B.J. Upton. Earlier this week word was leaked that the Braves were considering sending Upton to the minors due to lack of production. In the tenth inning it was Upton that drove in the winning run for the Braves. It started when Evan Gattis was walked to start tenth. Jordan Schafer would pinch run for Gattis and then steal second before a Dan Uggla walk. One batter latter Upton smacked a line drive to right giving the Braves a 2-1 win. The win returns the Braves lead in the NL East to 5.5 games over the Nationals. On Sunday the two teams will meet in the rubber game of a thr...

B.J. Upton’s Troubles Affecting Justin Upton?

Are B.J.Upton’s struggles affecting brother Justin? All the focus has been on B.J. Upton‘s struggles, but B.J. isn’t the only Upton struggling.  Brother Justin has cooled off considerably since his fast April start. Justin won the April National League Player of the Month, mainly on the strength of his 12 home runs.  He also had a lofty .402 on-base-percentage and scintillating...

Braves' Gonzalez thinking of demoting B.J. Upton

ATLANTA Fredi Gonzalez has apparently seen enough of B.J. Upton's struggles over the last two months. The Atlanta skipper has contemplated requesting a minor-league assignment for Upton who's batting .146 on the season just a few months after signing the largest contract in Braves history (five years, 75 million). "In my own mind, you think about those things, but...

B.J. Upton could be sent to minors

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says he has considered asking center fielder B.J. Upton to work out his struggles in a minor league assignment. Upton, signed to the biggest contract in franchise history at five years, $75.25 million, has a .146 batting average, 109 points below his seven-year career mark with Tampa Bay. Gonzalez indicated that Upton has enough service time in the...

BJ Upton K's In 12-U Debut

Rumors of an imminent demotion for Braves centerfielder BJ Upton were confirmed this past weekend as he made his first appearance for Paul’s Auto Parts of the Greater Atlanta Little League on Saturday afternoon. He entered the game as a pinch runner in the third inning and struck out in his only plate appearance in the fifth. Upton glances towards the Paul's Auto dugout...

B.J. Upton Rides Pine Again

In what is now becoming a familiar scenario, Braves outfielder B.J. Upton will ride the pine again in the Braves/Nationals opener.  Manager Fredi Gonzalez has opted to play Jason Heyward in center field, Evan Gattis in left and Justin Upton in right. The elder Upton brother is sitting out for the second night in a row, and  fourth game in the last five. Jordan Schafer has been...

B.J. Upton returns to lineup, delivers walk-off single

ATLANTA -- B.J. Upton returned to the lineup and had two hits, including a game-ending single in the 10th inning that lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. Upton, hitting only .145 at the start of the game, had been held out of two straight starts by manager Fredi Gonzalez, who hoped the rest would jumpstart the center fielder. And...

B.J. Upton gets big hit in return

B.J. Upton returned to the lineup and had two hits, including a game-ending single in the 10th inning that lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. B.J. Upton Could Be Sent to Minors to Work Out Struggles, According to Manager Fredi Gonzalez

When the Atlanta Braves acquired B.J. and Justin Upton this offseason, almost all of Braves Country anticipated the dynamic duo to be a dominant force in the middle of the lineup. But, one of the brothers is not living up to his end of the deal. B.J. Upton, who signed a franchise-record five-year, $75.25 million contract in November, is in the midst of his worst season as a big-leaguer...

Three Cuts: B.J. comes through with walk-off single

ATLANTA -- The Braves won a thriller Saturday night when B.J. Upton broke out of a long slump, singling to right in the 10th inning to drive home the pinch-running Jordan Schafer. The dugout emptied and Uptons teammates enveloped him as the 2-1 victory extended the Braves lead over the Nationals in the NL East to 5 games. Here are three observations from the win: 1. Tim Hudson looked...

Chopcast: Braves pace-setting NL East race

ATLANTA The Braves keep making significant changes to their 25-man roster and they keep extending their lead in the N.L. East. At this point, following an 11-3 rout over the Blue Jays with many of their key players sitting (Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton, Dan Uggla, is there any move Frank Wren and Fredi Gonzalez wouldn't dare to make? Even the team's newest rookie hyped reliever...

Braves facing Pirates to start mild June schedule

The Atlanta Braves spent the first two months of the season largely on the road. Their home numbers hardly reflected the early going because Turner Field began to feel like the visitor’s park due to them being there so rarely. For instance, Tim Hudson’s numbers during April and May at home hardly looked like they belonged with his overall ERA because he’d had far too many horrific...

Nationals Drop Series To Braves, Despite Solid Rookie Pitching

The rookies pitched their hearts out for the Washington Nationals (29-28) on Sunday, but without much support from their veterans, the Nats were not able to secure a win over the Atlanta Braves (34-22). The Nationals tallied only five hits in the 6-3 loss, which lost them the series and put them a season-high six and a half games behind the NL East leading Braves. Nathan...
