Five pitchers hailing from Cornell, Cal-Riverside and Santa Clara universities have all agreed to join the Cowlitz Black Bears for the 2012 season.

Washington natives Nick Busto and Brian McAfee from Cornell University, Kevin Davidson and Kevin Sprague from Cal Riverside, and Tommy Nance of Santa Clara join returning hurlers Ian Eckery and Kody Watts, along with LCC pitcher Brandon Boyle to comprise the Black Bears' pitching staff.

Busto, a freshman left-hander from Seattle's Lakeside High, is a two-time all-Metro League pitcher/designated hitter who was on the Baseball Northwest Class of 2011 "To Watch" list.

"Nick is a very smart pitcher who has three pitches he can throw for strikes," Cornell coach Bill Walkenbach said on the team's website. "He has shown an aptitude for knowing how to attack hitters, and has been very effective at keeping them off-balance."

McAfee, also a freshman, is a right-handed pitcher who graduated from Bothell High. As a senior, he led the Cougars to the Class 4A State Baseball Championships and was named the state's Class 4A Player of the Year while posting a 10-0 record with seven shutouts and a 0.55 earned run average. In addition, he also was tabbed to the Baseball Northwest Class of 2011 "To-Watch" list.
