It was only last week that the remote possibility surfaced of Brandon Morrow (along with Casey Janssen) being the first arbitration case to go to a meeting with the Blue Jays since 1997. That went out the window tonight, as the Blue Jays have announced that they’ve signed the 27-year old to a 3-year extension worth $20 million.
Shi Davidi of Sportsnet first broke the news on the contract earlier this evening on Twitter, with an official announcement like coming tomorrow. The deal also includes a $10 million team option for a 4th year, potentially buying into Morrow’s age-31 season, along with a $1 million buyout if things don’t work out. Either way, it’s a minimum of $21 million dollars guaranteed to Morrow, who will be headed into his 3rd full year as a starting pitcher.
