Something was going to have to give after last night’s cringe-inducing bullpen blowup (just one of seemingly countless incidences this season), especially regarding the struggles of “closer” Jon Rauch. Well, Jays nation got their sacrificial lamb today, as newcomer Trever Miller was DFA’d just weeks after being acquired as part of the Colby Rasmus deal, while Rauch was moved to the DL with a case of suck appendicitis after blowing not just the game, but his appendix last night.
Miller’s short stay in Toronto lasted all of 3.2 unimpressive innings over 6 appearances, in which he allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 earned runs. The lefty specialist had been ineffective most of this season as a Cardinal (and you could argue most of his career), and with the Jays bullpen being as much of a mess as it is, there was no reason to keep the 38-year old around. Perhaps he’ll wind up find future employment with a MLB club that isn’t named after a bird.
