Toronto shortstop Yunel Escobar played Saturday’s game against the Red Sox with a homophobic slur written on his eye black.  As you can see in the above photo, the 29-year-old Escobar has the words “Tu ere maricon” on his eye black, which roughly translates in English to “You are a f*ggot.”  Whether or not Escobar was the victim of a rather tasteless prank, or if he thought he could get away with it because the phrase is in Spanish is beside the point.  This garbage doesn’t belong in baseball, or anywhere for that matter.

ESPN reports that MLB is investigating the gay slur—first brought to light by Jays season ticket holder James Greenhalgh, who posted this picture of Escobar to flickr—and neither the team, nor Escobar’s agent, have commented on the matter.
