Giants-knocks-the-winning
The Red Sox dropped a tight one in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night, and a big part of the loss was due to a Cody Ross' misplay in the outfield. Ross ultimately caught the ball, but the misplay caused his throw home to be delayed and the Rays' runner scored from third to give the Rays the 2-1 lead. NESN's Jenny Dell caught up with Bobby Valentine after the game to discuss the play and it's impact on the loss. Check out the video above to hear Valentine's reaction.

Recap: Ross drives in four to lead Sox past Rays 5-3.

Cody Ross likes to make up for his mistakes rather quick. A day after losing a pop up in the sky that gave the Rays the winning run, the Sox outfielder gets a two out RBI single in the eighth which would be the difference in a 5-3 win. Ross had himself a great night as he had Rays starter Matt Moore work hard tonight.  Moore walked Ross with the bases loaded in the first and...

When the Red Sox first signed Cody Ross over the offseason, many fans wondered if the career journeyman outfielder was even worth the time. Ross was a 31-year-old outfielder, who was joining...

Cody Ross Redeems Himself Against Tampa Bay With 'Pop-Up Payback' Clutch Hit (Video)

A baseball season is long. It's a grind, but it's also a chance day in and day out for players to perform every step along the way, even if their last one wasn't so great. Cody Ross is a walking, talking, bat-swinging example of that here on Thursday, following up a game he'd probably want to forget with one that he'll likely remember. His three RBIs were the...

Bobby Valentine Says Umpire Had Short Fuse, 'I Guess You Can't Question Things Twice' (Video)

Bobby Valentine has been ejected 38 times as a big league manager. Friday's ejection was his first as skipper of the Red Sox. Valentine was ejected following an argument stemming from a close play at first base in the ninth inning. Marlon Byrd appeared to beat out a throw to first, but first-base umpire Gary Darling ruled the baserunner, Jimmy Rollins, was safe. That led to Valentine...

Improvement of Red Sox Starters Giving Bobby Valentine Options in Bullpen (Video)

The Red Sox pitching rotation was the focus of great scrutiny to start the season, as neither the rotation nor the bullpen could seemingly get their act together. Recently, the Red Sox have looked solid in both factes of their pitching staff and manager Bobby Valentine feels much more confident in his decision making, given the strong performances. Valentine told NESN's Tom Caron...

Vote: Does Bobby Valentine or Charlie Manuel Face a Tougher Challenge as Manager This Season?

The Red Sox and Phillies have both gotten out to slower starts than they probably would have liked, and it's not making life any easier for the men in charge of leading the teams from the dugout. Bobby Valentine and Charlie Manuel had their work cut out for them after the first few weeks of the season, and both rose to the challenge. Manuel's Phillies have won five in a row...

Red Sox News & Notes - 5/18

One of the players, indirectly or directly responsible depending on your point of view, who played a role in Wednesday night's loss for the Boston Red Sox to the Tampa Bay Rays, was a big reason why the Red Sox were winners on Thursday night. Obviously Clay Buchholz didn't balk in any runs last night so we are talking about Cody Ross. It was Ross who misjudged a fly ball...

How Should Bobby Valentine Decide Between Kevin Youkilis and Will Middlebrooks?

Bobby Valentine is in a bit of a bind. Kevin Youkilis is currently hitting the comeback trail and after a strong debut in the minors on Wednesday, he appears to be inching closer to reclaiming his spot in the Red Sox lineup as the everyday third baseman. At least, he would if Will Middlebrooks wasn't currently occupying it to considerable success. Since Middlebrooks was called...

Will Middlebrooks Still Receiving Praise From Bobby Valentine Despite Cooling Off a Bit (Video)

Will Middlebrooks exploded offensively upon making his leap to the big leagues, but the young third baseman has since cooled off a bit. Middlebrooks remains a tough out for opposing pitchers, but he's seen his average dip drastically as a result of some struggles. If nothing else, it could make it easier for Bobby Valentine to plug in Kevin Youkilis over Middlebrooks when the...

One guy stands out, but after that the subject becomes debatable. Recently I’ve been asking some of my Red Sox-loving friends “Who are Boston’s greatest managers?” Those conversations tend...

Red Sox Pitching Must Continue to Improve, Still Biggest Key to Getting Back Into AL East Race

It's the pitching. Which is exactly what we've been saying all along. Despite a 2-1 loss to the Rays on Wednesday night, the Red Sox have won five out of six and are showing signs of life. It's not their best run of the season –- they won six straight in Minnesota and Chicago in late April -- but for the first time this season the Sox are showing they can win games...

Which Red Sox Infielder Should Play the Most Outfield During Interleague Play?

The Red Sox start interleague play on Friday against the Phillies, which means two things. One, that they'll have their first look up close at Jonathan Papelbon in a different uniform. Two, that they'll be without a designated hitter. That means that if Bobby Valentine wants to have David Ortiz's bat in the lineup for this weekend's slate of games in Philadelphia...
