Bugs & Cranks:
Lost in the hype of Bonds' threatened boycott of the Hall Of Fame was that he adamantly, unequivocally declared his innocence when asked if he set the record unfairly with the help of PEDs. This is The United States Of America. If a man declares his innocence, he is considered innocent until he is proven guilty. There is no pricetag on that. Therefore I urge you to join Barry in his boycott.

he has been proven guilty in the court of public opinion.
His mistress has produced evidence he has denied, yet he hasn't denied she is his mistress.
is this a trustworthy man?
She (and others) have talked about his guilt in public. An INNOCENT man would have REFUTED their statemenst by FILING SUIT against ALL WHO CLAIM HE CHEATED.
He hasn't.
HMMMMM - I wonder why?
he is a liar, a cheat and a man underserving of the Hall Of Fame.
"The Clear"?
C'mon.
Barry Bonds - the most Fanatical of all sportsmen.
He who players RAVE about how involved in his conditioning he is.
he just HAPPENS NOT to ask WHAT"S in the clear?
and his Mistress just HAPPENS to know that said steroid make the ball appear "as large as beach ball"? Wait - what? - a lucky guess?
Nope.
Buh-Bye cheater.
BONDS DESERVES THE ASTERIK!
JOIN THE MOVEMENT!!!
DENY BONDS THE HALL!!!!
CHEATERS DESERVE NOTHING!!
Curt Schilling had much the same argument of if you don't sue, it must be true -- but who other than Bonds gets held to that standard?
(*And you misspelled AsteriSk.)
I also notice you haven't refuted the statements about his mistress, or the fact that we are supposed to believe such a fanatical workout fiend would NOT ask what's in "The Clear".
Accolades he rightfully deserves?
Then he should come clean and testify before the Mitchell investigation.
Then, we'll know for sure, because they will investigate his statements.
If he continues to evade, we know what the reason must be.
Why evade if he's telling the truth?
Oh, one more thing-
Marion Jones has admitted to taking Steroids - "The Clear" - Which she got from Balco.
Still Think Bonds deserves to be recognized?
So Do I.
For Cheating.
he should get the ASTERISK.
The fact that he made the denial knowing the Mitchell investigation is going to name names, tells me he's pretty damn sure his name won't be on their list.
Listening to his lawyers' advice not to talk to Mitchell & co., and trusting his best friend/trainer -- who he again on MSNBC tonight said told him he never gave him anything that wasn't legit -- that all seems plausible to me. Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Bonds should be recognized as the greatest slugger, the greatest baseball player, of All Time.
Did Bonds teach you that? That's what he does in the MSNBC piece.
Wow, what a homer you are.
So funny how those who support him are blind to the facts, or claim to be.
He has YET to go ON RECORD in A COURT OF LAW (which the Mitchell investigation is almost tantamount to, and I'd accept it if he at least sat down with them), yet the evidence is overwhelming.
Fact is, every other player who could PROVE they were innocent in this situation, would.
WHAT HAS BONDS DONE?
Nothing.
He has offered NOTHING to refute his ex-mistress, not even refute he was cheating on his wife with her.
So, he admits he is a liar and cheated on his wife.
That's credibility?
Why should we believe anything he says?
Why shouldn't we believe her when she has tapes and phone messages that back her claims up?
He has done NOTHING to refute the printed allegatons in either the book, the mistress, or by the various witnesses to his participation in the drug scandal.
If the allegations are false, it's easy to prove.
yet, he doesn't.
Hmmmm.
I wonder why?
His lack of honesty regarding this situation (dragging his kids before the media, then claiming the press is trying to defame him before his family, much like the Giants declining his option, then Bonds claiming he was Fired) is fraudulent at best.
No comment regarding his links to Balco and Ms. Jones' admission of guilt concerning the same substance Bonds' own testimnony proves he used? From the SAME company and one of the SAME trainers Bonds HIMSELF used? The SAME TRUSTED TRAINER?
open your eyes.
he cheated, we all know it.
the best thing ever is this bloated, egomaniacal fraud has decided to save everyone the public emabarassment of him being offered a spot in the "Hall of Fame" when he doesn't deserve it - Much Like McGwire before him.
Who, incidentally, caused him to cheat in the first place.
What a waste of time and press he is.
Aren't you embarrassed to support such an obvious cheater and fraud in the game of Baseball, let alone, life?
We should recognize Bonds as the Greatest Cheater of all time, a loser who had to dope himself because he couldn't handle being a good player, he had to cheat to try to be the best. Bonds is worse than Shoeless Joe Jackson.
In the end, he'll always be the guy who could have settled this whole thing by just telling the truth.
But, his lies don't jibe with the evidence that has been made public.
He lied.
You bought it.
Admit it.
-- you had relations with your mother in an outhouse. If you don't sue me, it must be true.
Speculations ain't facts, jack.
For more enlightened Bonds reading, head to:

Biggest cheater in the world?
Even if Barry did everything you accused him of, had he been caught he would have got a suspension of 50 games tops -- not an invalidation of his statistics or records, not ineligibility for the HOF. It's hardly as if Barry is the only suspected cheater in sports -- why all the hate?
Giambi, Marion Jones, Palmiero, Sosa, MacGwire - ALL OF THEM SUCK.
Including Bonds.
just because A LOT of professional Playters have done it, doesn't make it right.
And when anyone says Bonds is DESERVING of a record that he obviously cheated to attain, I speak out about it.
And, I'm highly informed on this issue.
i work part time in a law firm.
(I know, but it pays the bills for now)
As for your "outhouse" analogy, the difference is, there is no former Mistress of mine who exists OR testified before a grand jury that it happened, or any of the number of other witnesses that have come forward to implicate Bonds, including, no one has written a book about your outhouse allegations that can place me or my mom in said outhouse, as the book can place Balco, and Bonds together, as well as Balco and illegal Performance Enhancing Drugs together - let alone the Marion Jones admission to using THE EXACT SAME SUBSTANCE bonds ADMITTED using.
HE claims it's Flaxseed Oil.
She claims she KNEW it was a steroid and took it anyway.
So....
Marion Jones knew what was in "the clear" but Bonds never asked?
And, she got it from THE SAME GUY?
C'mon.
So, I guess you see how Your "outhouse" argument holds no water.
It's an out and out lie with no Grand jury testimony or published novels that are heavily researched to back it.
and BTW-
I'm not a rich guy, but if anyone published such a lie (re: outhouse) in a book, you can bet YOUR LAST DOLLAR that I'd sue for everything the author had.
Defamation of Character is VERY easy to defend against:
http://www.expertlaw.com/library/personal_injury/defamation.html
if Bonds is so concerned, he has a legal venue to refute the claims.
He hasn't.
mainly because, if he goes to court, EVERYTHING is fair game.
It will all come out.
Let me ask you:
Why do you defend him so whole heartedly?
he could end ALL of this by filing a defamation of character lawsuit.
But he chooses not to...
McGwire should not have had the record, Palmiero's 3,000 hits should be wiped and Bonds should get the Asterisk if they let it stand.
If Bonds sued the book & the mistress, wouldn't he also have to sue every other person in America who's defamed his character?
He said directly, unequivocally it's not true that he got the record unfairly. Unless MLB or a court of law has proof otherwise, he should get the respect he deserves.
I defend Bonds wholeheartedly because it's disgusting how he is singled out for something he's suspected of, when others who have admitted or tested positive are never mentioned or hated on.
I defend Bonds wholeheartedly because even if he is guilty of anything he's been accused of, it still shouldn't matter. Baseball is a sport based on cheating as much as you can get away with -- see Ty Cobb, the 1954 Giants, spitballs, etc, etc, etc. It ain't cheating if you don't get caught.
Thanks for your answer.
BTW-
Are you a SF giant fan or from the Bay area?
Just curious, not an accusation.
I don't agree with your assumption he'd have to sue everyone.
He wouldn't have to sue everyone else who says it, just the ones like his mistress and the authors of the book and other witnesses who have published their allegations (the SF Tribune, etc.) Because those are instances where their claims are backed by evidence.
if he did that and won, people like me would have to shut up.
But, he can't and won't because they have more evidence that will destroy him.
And, if you open that door, everyone will know about his "steroid fridge" in the garage of the house he bought for his mistress, the audio tapes of him admitting use to her would be admissable, etc. etc.
I DO agree there has been cheating in certain areas of the sport by certain players, but NONE have gone this far except for Shoeless Joe Jackson and now, based on the leaked Grand Jury testimony, Bonds.
Baseball could have (and should have) gone after Bonds and suspended him while investigating. Heck - we all know the league KNEW Palmiero had tested poitive after LYING TO CONGRESS.
Yet, MLB allowed him to break the 3,000 hit barrier and THEN announced it and suspended him. They LET him break the barrier DESPIT his positive test.
They basically endorsed his cheating and lying to Congress.
Yet, Congress didn't bring Raffy up on contempt charges.
More important things to do. (for once!)
The game has become a joke and I won't spend a dime on it ever again- and haven't since the lockout.
looking the other way doesn't make it better.
By the fans or the league.
Endorsing cheating in sport belittles the game.
Why do you think the Giants don't want him back?
Why do you think no one will offer him a deal (except maybe Pittsburgh who could use the press)?
Because now that Bonds has broken the record, the gloves can come off.
I expect the Mitchell Commission will name him as a violator, and he will "retire" in protest.
Then again, the reason MLB hasn't gone after him is they don't want the black eye that it will bring the sport. If they gave Palmiero a pass after knowing he was cheating, it's possible they'll continue to look the other way on Bonds as well.
I maybe remembering my Field of Dreams wrong -- but wasn't Shoeless Joe the guy who took the gamblers money, but still played well in the World Series? Either way, how is Bonds equally bad -- accepting money to lose intentionally definitely affects the outcome of the game. If Bonds "unfairly" tried to gain an edge to be better & win baseball games, what makes him so much worse than the thousands of others who have done that in baseball and other sports?
Which is another reason why I support Bonds -- it's crazy to me how disproportionately he alone is singled out and vilified.
As for the rest, it seems like idle speculation to me. I think he'll be playing next year and doing well. I don't think he'll be on any lists. But we'll see.
Incidentally, the original post on Bugs & Cranks has spilled over into a debate across three other websites (not including this pleasant discussion here). You might also want to check out:

And follow other links in those posts to the other sites.
Also, I agree on McGwire.
however, teh reason Bonds is singled out is NO ONE ELSE has such testimony about their use BEFORE A GRAND JURY>
if there was such for Mac, Sosa, Palmiero, Giambi, etc, and then they boldy claim it isn't true, but did nothing to back it up, they'd be vilified too.
Barry could clear this up but won't.
his "me-first" asstitude turned the fans and the press against him.
his latest comment about being "fired" is indicative of this.
Do you think his mistress and ALL the other witnesses before the Grand Jury were lying?
You've avoided commenting on that aspect of my posts...
BTW - sorry about LAX. i avoid it at all costs.
I'll check those other links out, thanks.
Best-
That the testimony was leaked at all seems to me to be a terrible violation of Barry's civil rights.
But even in the leaked testimony I have heard about, it's never said anything other than Barry unknowingly took steroids in 2003. Even if he got "caught" now, he would only face a 50 game suspension, not erasing or asterisizing his records. Palmeiro tested positive. Giambi admitted a "personal history with steroids" and got off with no punishment whatsoever because he gave a few thousand dollars to building inner city baseball fields or something.
I certainly think it's possible that his mistress & all other witnesses are lying.
****
"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds was indicted Thursday on perjury and obstruction of justice charges, culminating a four-year federal investigation into whether he lied under oath to a grand jury looking into steroid use by elite athletes.
The indictment came three months after the 43-year-old Bonds passed Hank Aaron to become baseball's career home run leader. Bonds parted ways with the San Francisco Giants after the season.
While Bonds was chasing Aaron, a grand jury was working behind closed doors to put the finishing touches on the long-rumored indictment."

You meant that seriously, right?
So...
You just won't see the other side, will you?
It's NOT about race.
It's NOT about scapegoating.
It's NOT about McGwire, Sosa, Paliero, et al.
It has NOTHING to do with Michael Vick.
It's about Barry Lying about cheating.
Forget the fact that the general public (Blacks and Whites alike) believe he cheated and lied.
The GOVERNMENT believes he did.
You ask why they'd spend this much money?
BECAUSE HE LIED and SULLIED the game.
Your predictions are funny, fanciful and as someone said on your blog - a self parody.
You have almost as big an ego as Bonds does.
You said:
"I certainly think it's possible that his mistress & all other witnesses are lying."
Really? ALL the other witnesses? 20 +? But Bonds, that modicum of Honesty, he's telling the truth? What gives you that impression?
I live in Los Angeles, but spend ALOT of time in NYC. EVERYWHERE I go, Bonds has the fans believing he cheated. The Stigma was created by him. Heck, a recent Layover in Atlanta was DOMINATED by ATL folk berating Bonds for his behaviour.
In fact, these people pointed out that as much as Bonds protested he WASN'T cheating, reminded them of...Marion Jones. She ALSO claimed she din't cheat...then tearfully admitted her guilt, AND BALCO's on teh Courthouse Steps.
Is Barry Next?
You criticize those who believe he cheated, yet back your criticism with rhetoric.
You ignore trhe testimony and instead believe your heart which has no basis in truth.
Hell, I wish my Dad was still alive, but wishing won't make it so, Mr. Chalk.
The truth is, he's as dead as Barry Bond's career.
Hire Bonds as a hitting coach? And earning a World Series Ring?
Maybe AFTER Pete Rose makes the Hall of Fame.
NOT before.
My humble opinion, of course.
