  The Red Sox announced Monday that closer Andrew Bailey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right bicep tendinitis. Because the move is retroactive to April 29th, the righty will be eligible to come off the disabled list on May 14th. Bailey, who has not pitched since April 28th against Houston, was looking to avoid a DL stint before an MRI confirmed that he was suffering from tendinitis in his right bicep. While he is out, Joel Hanrahan will assume the closer role that Bailey had claimed during Hanrahan’s DL stint in late-April. In thirteen games this season (12.1 innings), Bailey has only allowed two earned runs on six hits. With five saves, twenty strikeouts, and an ERA of 1.46, he has been one of the most pleasant surprises on the over-achieving Red Sox roster. Although initially slated to be Hanrahan’s setup man, Bailey pitched well enough in Hanrahan’s absence that he was named closer upon Hanrahan’s return last Tuesday.
