The man Boston Red Sox fans have heard of for the past two seasons has finally arrived. As they head out to San Francisco, the Red Sox have recalled their top prospect Xander Bogaerts.
Bogaerts, a shortshop and potentially a third baseman, has played in double A and triple A ball this season. The Red Sox are heading to the west coast for a six game road trip in Los Angeles and San Francisco all this week. They have lost three series in a row and their bats have gone cold.
In 60 games with the Pawtucket Red Sox Bogaerts hit .284 with a .369 OBP and has played mostly shortstop. To make room for him on the roster the Sox sent down utility man Brock Holt and also placed pitchers Clay Buchholz and Andrew Bailey on the 60 day disabled list.
With Will Middlebrooks going 12-for-26 since being recalled back up, it appears unlikely that Bogaerts would take over the third base position. However, current starting shortstop Stephen Drew is 3-for24 in his last few games yet has started the past 2...
