Found April 12, 2013 on Baseball Hot Corner:
Without David Ortiz, the Boston Red Sox lineup doesn’t look as good as the Boston faithful might hope. Ortiz played in Pawtucket on Thursday night and should return to the lineup soon, however, the boys of summer showed some power in his absence. First of all, we can look to the game in Toronto where they hit six home runs. Three came from Will Middlebrooks, and then solo shots from Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Mike Napoli and Jacoby Ellsbury. Boston is 13th in MLB in home runs with 11, seven behind first place Oakland Athletics, but just four behind the 15 from the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies. Middlebrooks leads the team with four home runs, and he has been expected to produce the power this season, his second in the Major Leagues. Second on the team, surprisingly, is the three from Daniel Nava. He hit a three run homer to win the game against the Baltimore Orioles on the home opener as well. Next is Mi...

David Ortiz solid in his first rehab start

If the Yankees can get players back, so can the Red Sox.  That's how the rivalry works, right?  With both Curtis Granderson and Marx Teixeira progressing in their rehab, it was only fitting that David Ortiz would make his first rehab start for the Red Sox - the Pawtucket Red Sox, that is. Ortiz, who is still battling issues with the achilles he strained last year, looked...

Drew over Iglesias the wrong move for the Red Sox

There was a time when I supported Stephen Drew as one of the most underrated shortstops in baseball. If you search my site, you will probably find a post or two on the subject. But that was before he broke his ankle and fell out of favor in Arizona. Since that injury, Stephen Drew has not yet been able to recapture his elite shortstop status. I waited for years for Drew to have...

Red Sox DH David Ortiz pain-free in rehab game

When it comes to running the bases, Boston slugger David Ortiz will never be confused with Rickey Henderson. But the fact that Ortiz was able to run without pain Thursday night was the best news the Red Sox could have hoped for in his first rehab game with Triple-A Pawtucket. Ortiz's baserunning might have overshadowed his performance at the plate even though he was 2 for 3...

Your Morning Dump...Where Ortiz is making progress

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I thought David was outstanding,” DiSarcina said. “He swung the bat really well and came out of it once again pretty healthy. I think he has normal soreness from playing. “He ran...

Video: Stephen Drew catches line drive deflected by Will Middlebrooks

Tweet   The Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in ten innings Saturday thanks to a walkoff single by Shane Victorino. The left side of Boston’s infield (third baseman Will Middlebrooks and shortstop Stephen Drew) struggled with the bats on the afternoon, going a combined 1-for-8 with two strikeouts. But they did [...]

4 real? Four at bats that changed the game. Red Sox vs Rays 4-13-13

Game 10: Red Sox win in extras, 2-1 There was a pitcher's duel at Fenway this afternoon, as David Price and Jon Lester had aces up their sleeves. The two combined for 13 strikeouts and 13 innings pitched, but in the end, timely hitting and smart managerial moves by John Farrell gave the Red Sox the 2-1 win in extra innings. Here are the four at bats that changed the game:...

4 real? Four at bats that changed the game. Red Sox vs O's 4-11-13

Game 9: Red Sox fall in a close one 3-2 The Red Sox had goals of taking the third series in a row to start a season for the first time since 1952, but the Orioles spoiled all the fun. The game was close all night, and Alfredo Aceves was servicable at best, but the Red Sox could not put together enough offense to take this from the Os at Fenway. It almost felt as if the Orioles beat...

Report: Bobby Valentine to Publish Book Called ‘Valentine’s Way,’ Give His Perspective on 2012 Red Sox Season

Bobby Valentine will once again follow in Terry Francona‘s footsteps. Valentine is coming out with a book that will give “his perspective on last season with the Red Sox,” according to the Boston Herald. The book of baseball memoirs reportedly will be called “Valentine’s Way.” Valentine reportedly signed a deal with the publishing company Simon & Schuster, and he’ll...

Mike Napoli’s Improving Offensive Approach a Silver Lining in Tough Loss to Orioles

The Red Sox dropped two winnable games in a row to the Orioles, spoiling what had the potential to be a tempo-setting first home series. If there is a silver lining to Boston’s subpar offensive output in Thursday’s 3-2 loss, though, it’s the increased comfort that Mike Napoli appears to have at the plate. Napoli entered Thursday’s contest hitting just .211 (6-for-34) with...

Red Sox-Rays Postponed Due to Inclement Weather, to Be Rescheduled

The 7:10 p.m. game between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays has been postponed due to the weather, the team announced Friday afternoon. The area was expecting rain throughout the evening, with snow and sleet falling at points in some parts of the state Friday afternoon. Temperatures were expected to drop into the 30s, with 20-mph winds. The game “will be rescheduled as...

Chris Davis hits homer, Red Sox fan gives it one finger up

I guess she doesn’t approve of Chris Davis‘ homer.

3 Stars of the game: Game 9

In the rubber game of the first home series of the season the Red Sox were not able to overcome a lead acquired by Baltimore in the 7th inning. This being the first series that the team has lost this season brings their record to 5-4, still a much better start to the year than we have had the previous 2 years. The team tonight was overrun by 3 Baltimore players, your three stars...

Pawsox Lineup and Game Notes 4/14

The Pawtucket Red Sox are off to their best start in team history through the first nine games of the season compiling an 8-1 record. David Ortiz was scratched from Sunday’s lineup vs. Rochester and Mark Hamilton will serve as the team’s DH in Ortiz’s absence. No reason was given for Big Papi’s scratch today. Starter Steven Wright was suppose to be today's Pawsox starter...
