This is a question that Red Sox fans have given tons of thought to over the past few years: was receiving Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell worth giving up Hanley Ramirez? Apparently fans aren't the only ones having a debate about that as the Red Sox recently have had a few discussions with [...]

  • I'm going on record as saying I would absolutely take Hanley Ramirez for a combination of Ellsbury, Buchholz, and a few A ball guys (not Bowden, Masterson, Anderson, or Bard.)
  • No doubt.
  • I'd say it would take Buchholz, Anderson, Lowrie and some low level prospects. Ramirez is locked up for awhile pretty cheaply so they have no need to trade him.
  • I dunno. The Marlins idea of cheap is a LOT different than the rest of the league's idea of cheap. Hell, they got rid of Scott Olsen because he was going to make 2 mil in arbitration. You're probably right with Anderson and Lowrie tho, they're further away from arbitration than Buchholz and Ellsbury are. I honestly view the Marlins as someone that will do anything to save a buck or two nowadays ;\
  • I THINK THE ANGELS WILL GET HIM!!
  • Any reasoning behind that?
  • ... IT'S CALLED A TRADE?!!?!? LMAO
  • No kidding genius. Have you heard any rumors or any ANYTHING linking him with the Angels?
  • I speak on behalf of all Marlins fans when I say don't trade Hanley!!! Yes, we have the smallest payroll in the MLB, and Ramirez is taking up a plurality of it, and Ellsbury and Buchholz are very solid young players, but with added revenue coming in starting in 2011 from that new stadium being built, they should be able to manage the rest of their roster while keeping their biggest star. This offseason was presumably going to be a very difficult one for the fish with so many of their young players going into arbitration, and the primary goal was to keep as many of those players as possible. However, if giving up Hanley Ramirez is a means to save a few bucks and achieve this end, the 08-09 offseason will be considered a great disappointment.
  • Do you really think that though? They just dumped Scott Olsen (I think?) and his salary was only 2 mil AND he was a pretty legit reliever right? I wouldn't be shocked to see the Marlins just pocket all the added revenue.
  • No wait, Scott Olsen was the crazy crackhead with the arrest problems. Who was that cheap reliever with a 2.X ERA that they threw to the side because he was costing them close to 2 million dollars?
  • I think you're referring to Joe Nelson. He had an ERA of exactly 2 and is no longer on the roster. The only other guy might be Justin Miller, but he was good in '07 and then sucked last season. That's the one that wears the long-sleeved Under Armour to hide all his tattoos... including the one that says "I [heart] Billy Koch (his former teammate in Toronto)."
Jim Rome talks about that tattoo all the time on his show. Aside from when we're eliminating the Mets from playoff contention, that's the only time we get on Jim Rome is Burning.
  • You're right, I was thinking of Joe Nelson. No idea how his name managed to skip my mind because it seemed like the Red Sox had a little love affair with him a few years back. Anyway, he had a pretty decent year last season but then was non-tendered this year more than likely to save salary right?
