BOSTON -- Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett wasn't dealt out of Boston, but he may be gone for a while after leaving Tuesday's game against Detroit with back spasms.. Beckett, who has been a major disappointment this season and has drawn most of the fans' distaste for the club's mediocre season, walked off the mound to slight boos after pointing to his back following a bases-loaded walk to Mogul Canberra that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the third inning. When he threw ball four, Bucket waved to the dugout a couple of times with his glove before the trainer and manager Bobby Valentine came to the mound. Following a brief conversation, with the trainer touching the left side of the right-hander's back, he left, and Clayton Mortensen came in. The club announced that the injury was a back spasm. Beckett was the subject of numerous trade rumors the past few days, but GM Ben Cherington said, "We had conversations with a number of teams about a number of pl...

Red Sox Trying to Trade Beckett

ESPN- NEW YORK -- Two days before Tuesday's trading deadline, all appeared quiet on the Red Sox front, although one major league executive insisted Sunday night that the team is looking for a buyer for starting pitcher Josh Beckett.According to multiple reports the Red Sox are showing interest in finding a new home for Josh Beckett. Over the weekend,  the Red Sox inquired...

Could Josh Beckett get dealt?

News started to trickle out yesterday that Red Sox starter Josh Beckett might be on the market. Apparently, the Red Sox are listening on the 32-year old, but not actively shopping him. The usual suspects (Braves, Rangers, and Dodgers) have all called to express interest in Beckett. Beckett's career in Boston has been erratic (to say the least), and he hasn't thrown...

Josh Beckett Reflects on Being Dangled at Trade Deadline, Calls Experience 'Something Different for Me'

BOSTON –– For the first time in years, Josh Beckett's name circulated in trade rumors. It was foreign territory for Beckett, who has been the cornerstone of Boston's starting rotation since 2006. His inconsistency this season –– and the emergence of Franklin Morales –– made him a viable trading chip, if necessary. Shortly after Tuesday's outing, Beckett was...

Sox looked to deal Beckett, Ellsbury, and Shoppach to Rangers

The trade deadline ended without a bang from the Red Sox. The biggest deal of the day for the Sox was the acquisition of Craig Breslow for Albers and Podsednik. We all waited for something to happen with Josh Beckett and a lot of us were bummed to find out he would be on this team for the foreseeable future. This morning, WEEI's Rob Bradford wrote that the Red Sox looked to deal...

Sorry That You’re “Stuck” With Beckett

The MLB trade deadline passed and the Red Sox will be holding on to arguably the most hated athlete in Boston, Josh Beckett. There was speculation that Beckett may be traded to either Texas or Atlanta yesterday, but Globe writer Nick Cafardo reported yesterday that Sox G.M. Ben Cherington decided not to move the struggling pitcher. Now, for all those members of “Red Sox Nation”...

Josh Beckett 'More Than Likely' to Miss Next Start, With Franklin Morales Expected to Pitch in His Place

Josh Beckett is questionable for his next start days after leaving a game due to a back spasm. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine described Beckett as "much improved" on Thursday, but still indicated his pitcher was dealing with a limited range of motion. "I'd say it's questionable for him to throw [Friday], which would then make it questionable that he would...

Beckett leaves with back injury in Red Sox's rain-shortened win

BOSTON -- A rain-shortened comeback win against the reigning American League MVP, and suddenly the Boston Red Sox have a little streak going. Just when fans wanted Josh Beckett and others gone at the trade deadline, the Red Sox are making a slight charge. The Red Sox took advantage of a subpar night by reigning MVP Justin Verlander, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-1 Tuesday in a...

Your Morning Dump...where it could be a quiet day

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Boston Red Sox will not trade Josh Beckett before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, a team source said late Monday night. And while the club fielded numerous inquiries about the availability of outfielder Jacoby...

Hi folks, I’ll be here all day updating this post with the latest traded deadline news so check back early and often.  It should be an eventful day as the Red Sox have probably played themselves back into a “buyers” label over the past 4 days but they also have a surplus of players in key positions which puts them in a position to sell as well.  Here’s a primer for what...

Red Sox 4, Tigers 1(6)

Clayton Mortensen pitched 2 2-3 shutout innings after Josh Beckett left with back spasms and the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-1 in a game halted by rain in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday night. Detroit had the bases loaded with two outs when the tarp was rolled onto the field. The game was called 1 hour, 45 minutes later, giving the Red Sox their fourth straight...

Trade Deadline: No big splash from Sox

As always seems to be the case, there were a lot of rumors flying around about what the Red Sox might do at the non-waiver trade deadline yesterday.  Most of these scenarios involved major deals that included Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and others, but the Sox settled for two smaller deals. By not making a major move, the Sox can spin the idea that they feel the team is talented...

Trade rumors: Headley, Choo and Beckett

Here's a running list of trade rumors around the Major leagues: – The Padres might wait until the winter to trade third baseman Chase Headley according to Buster Olney of ESPN. He says that the Padres aren't “far down the road in their Headley trade talks,” so they might wait until the off season when more teams would be involved. – The Pittsburgh Pirates are interested...

Thoughts I thought: Red Sox win another series

The Sox won Tuesday night in 5 1/3 innings as heavy rain continued to fall   Even though Wednesday’s 7-5 loss to Detroit stung a bit, especially after being up 1-0 early, the Sox still took 2 out of 3 from another good playoff contender. They are currently 4 games behind the Angels and 3.5 games behind the Athletics. The Sox were able to beat Justin Verlander for the second time...
