Justin Masterson has been really strong the past month, but tonight, he was unable to keep that streak going. Masterson failed to keep his team in the game and did not escape the fifth inning as he allowed eight runs with the Tribe falling 10-3 to Tampa Bay at Progressive Field. The Rays struck for two in the first on a Ben Zobrist homer, though Cleveland answered back with two of their own on a ground out double play and balk. After that, it was Masterson allowing two more in the third on a Jose Lobaton two-run single, two in the fifth prior to exiting on a Luke Scott homer, and having two more charged to him thanks to Nick Hagadone after leaving the game. The Indians fell to three games behind the White Sox with the loss. They send Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound tomorrow night against Matt Moore for the Rays.

Rays Blast Masterson Early And Often

In his last six starts, Justin Masterson had allowed just 9 earned runs in 42 innings pitched while walking 9 and striking out 36. Last night, that positive streak hit a speed bump as Masterson was shelled for the first time since late May, allowing eight earned runs in less than five innings as the Rays pounded the Tribe 10-3 in game two of their four-game series heading into the...

Indians look to get hot again behind Jimenez

The Tampa Bay Rays broke out of their prolonged slump by knocking around one of baseball's hottest pitchers. The Rays will face another pitcher that has been throwing the ball well Saturday night when Ubaldo Jimenez goes for the Cleveland Indians. After finishing with four hits while losing Thursday's series opener in Cleveland 3-1, Tampa Bay (44-40) pounded out five during...

Rays' Scott homers to snap hitless streak

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Tampa Bay's designated hitter connected off Cleveland's Justin Masterson with one out and a runner on first in the fifth inning Friday night. Scott had to wait and see if center fielder Michael Brantley had the ball in his glove after trying to make a leaping catch at the wall. It was Scott's first hit since June 1 and came after he struck out twice...

Indians option LHP Hagadone to Triple A

The Indians have sent slumping left-hander Nick Hagadone to Triple-A Columbus. The Indians will play with a 24-man roster Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, then recall left-hander Scott Barnes on Sunday. Barnes was optioned to Columbus on June 28. Hagadone went 1-0 with a 6.39 ERA in 27 relief appearances for Cleveland. He had a 0.87 ERA after nine outings, but had been hit...

Luke Scott says slump has brought him to tears and made him pray for help

Luke Scott is currently setting all the wrong records for the Tampa Bay Rays. On Thursday night, he set a Rays team record for most consecutive at-bats without a hit as his historical hitting slump continued with an 0-for-3 night. Scott is currently in an 0-for-39 funk. The Rays record was 0-for-37 and the MLB record is 0-for-46, held by utility man Eugenio Velez. As expected, Scott...

Rays rookie Moore roughed up by Indians

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Ubaldo Jimenez struck out eight over six innings and Shelley Duncan hit a two-run homer to help the Cleveland Indians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3 Saturday. The Indians got three doubles in the second inning off rookie Matt Moore (5-6) as they jumped to a 3-0 lead.
