Found July 06, 2013 on Fox Sports North:
Here they were going again. Like so many Twins defeats this season, a rocky first inning appeared to be putting them away before two-thirds of their lineup had even picked up a bat. Three straight walks from starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey in the opening inning, and Toronto was already on the way to extending a painful Minnesota losing skid, not to mention the Twin Cities franchise's dreadful fortunes north of the border. But Saturday's 6-0 Twins win at the Rogers Centre wasn't like their usual early-innings snafus. Nor did it resemble most of their outings on the Blue Jays' famed, carpet-style turf. Pelfrey zeroed in and coaxed a two-out ground-out to second base off Rajai Davis' bat, and the Twins' second-longest futility streak of 2013 began to meet its demise. The difference, in manager Ron Gardenhire's eyes, was simple. His team smiled more. He implored them to Friday night during a much-discussed team meeting in the visitors' clubhouse follo...

All-Star nomination still in doubt for Glen Perkins

If Ron Gardenhire had it his way, Glen Perkins would be an All-Star. There's no rule saying a manager can't vote for his own player, and Gardenhire does indeed fill out a ballot. But there's only so much one manager can do to get his player onto the All-Star team. "He's got my vote," Gardenhire said of Perkins. "His numbers match up. They're right...

Fifth frame continues to be Scott Diamond's downfall

Scott Diamond seemed to have figured things out during his last start against the New York Yankees. He didn't earn a win, but he allowed just two earned runs in 6 23 innings. More importantly, he avoided a blowup in the fifth inning in that game. One start later, Diamond's fifth inning woes made a resurgence. The Minnesota Twins left-hander surrendered four runs in the bottom...

Longtime buddies Glen Perkins, Joe Mauer make AL All-Star team

Jim Leyland didn't have to do too much digging to deem Twins closer Glen Perkins All-Star worthy. Four appearances against his team this season provided for the Detroit Tigers and American League manager an ample sample size. Perkins closed out a quartet of Minnesota victories over the Tigers during the season's first half, never allowing a run. Add that to the eight-year...

Parmelee goes over wall to make great catch

Minnesota Twins first baseman Chris Parmelee went above and beyond yesterday, down 9-1 to the Yankees, slamming into the wall and then joining fans along right field. Your browser does not support... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Twins’ Oswaldo Arcia day to day with bruised hand

Minnesota Twins left fielder Oswaldo Arcia exited yesterday’s contest against the Toronto Blue Jays after he was hit on the hand by a pitch, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The Twins are listing Arcia as day to day with a bruised right hand. Arcia was struck on the hand by a 78-mph knuckle ball from Blue Jays right-hander R.A. Dickey. Following the HBP, Arcia...

Chris Parmelee makes dangerous diving catch over railing at Target Field

Chris Parmelee's diving catch over the right side wall Thursday might have been one of the few highlights for the Minnesota Twins over the Fourth of July holiday series against the New York Yankees this week — but it was a good one. After a few precarious moments, the first baseman shook off the crash landing into the first row and returned to the game with the ball firmly...

Twins 6, Blue Jays 0

Brian Dozier hit a three-run home run, Mike Pelfrey and three relievers combined for a four-hitter and the Minnesota Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 on Saturday. Dozier had two hits and four RBIs, connecting off knuckleballer R.A. Dickey for his eighth homer as the Twins snapped a six-game skid and won for just the fourth time in 14 games. Minnesota came in having lost 17...

Black uniform or blue, Mark Buehrle still trumps Twins

New team, same results for Mark Buehrle against the Minnesota Twins. The longtime White Sox pitcher faced a familiar Twins team Friday, although he was wearing a Toronto Blue Jays uniform. No matter who Buehrle is pitching for, he has Minnesota's number. That was the case again Friday as he pitched seven scoreless innings to help the Blue Jays blank the Twins in a 4-0 win in...

Blue Jays 4, Twins 0

Mark Buerhle made his 50th start against the Minnesota Twins one to remember. Jose Bautista hit his 20th home run, Buehrle pitched seven shutout innings to win for the first time in three starts and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the slumping Twins 4-0 Friday. Buehrle (5-5) allowed six hits, walked none and struck out five. The left-hander is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his past five home...

Twins try to put sweep by Yankees behind them

Despite the Toronto Blue Jays' recent struggles, facing them might not offer the Minnesota Twins a good opportunity to end their current slide. Looking to end their woes in Toronto, the Twins hope to avoid a sixth consecutive loss Friday night against a Blue Jays team trying to snap its own three-game skid. Minnesota (36-46) opened an eight-game homestand by winning two of three...

Wins and losses aren’t a fair measuring stick in rebuilding mode

Over the last couple of months, I have heard many assaults on the Twins front office and management, whether it be from uncles and cousins or just anonymous malcontents on Twitter. It’s to the point that I feel the need to stick up for Terry Ryan and, yes, even Ron Gardenhire. I will start with Terry Ryan. I had my issues with him during his first tenure, and that lay entirely...

Twins designate P.J. Walters for release or assignment

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins knew they were going to have to make a roster move in order to make room for Mike Pelfrey on the 25-man roster. Ultimately, P.J. Walters was the odd man out. Minnesota designated Walters for release or assignment after Thursday's game and will activate Pelfrey from the disabled list before his start on Saturday in Toronto. In eight starts this...
