On Saturday afternoon, Felix Hernandez shut out the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out six. That in itself is a very impressive achievement, given that the Yankees have scored the third-most runs per game in baseball this season, and also given that Yankee Stadium is not a particularly pleasant place to pitch. (The Yankees had averaged over five runs per game there before today.) Even more impressive is the fact that he did it with only 101 pitches. No pitcher has thrown a complete game against the Yankees with fewer pitches since Roy Halladay did it with 96 in 2008. If you want to shut out the Yankees, and you don't want it to take a long time, your best bet is to have Roy Halladay or Felix Hernandez. Felix has always been fairly efficient, but he's been especially efficient this season, throwing a career-low 14.6 pitches per inning. Among pitchers with at least 80 IP, only Bartolo Colon, Scott Diamond, and R.A. Dickey have thrown f...

"If there's a way that he can help us, we'll definitely use him, especially in the month of September, when you can expand rosters," Girardi said. The Quiet Performance Of Hiroki Kuroda

When Felix Hernandez throws a 1-0, complete game, two-hit shut-out, that is about all you’ll hear about from that game. However, if you look at who threw against Hernandez you’ll find that Hiroki Kuroda held his own against the former Cy Young winner. Kuroda went 6 and 1/3 scattering 7 hits while giving up only 1 run. Kuroda walked just one Mariner while striking out four demonstrating...

Yankee Stadium debuts Ichiro-inspired food

If anything can be taken from Ichiro Suzuki’s stint thus far with the New York Yankees, it’s that the 38 year old star still has some left in the tank. Apparently the Yanks feel quite good about acquiring him, and are now paying tribute to him with his own food dish at Yankee Stadium. MLB.com reported that the “Suzuki Roll” has made its debut, much to the delight of fans...

Yankeetorial: Ichiro can't change the Yankees. But could we change him?

Here’s how it plays out in the Brad Pitt movie: It’s the ninth inning of game seven, the 2012 World Series. Yanks down by one. The Giants’ evil Matt Cain – portrayed by a CGI-enhanced Mark Ruffalo - is firing a shutout. Around the globe, children of every ethnicity and Higgs boson-collision-angle hug their electronic devices in rapt attention, as Ichiro – (Brad) - trudges...

Mariners 1, Yankees 0

Felix Hernandez dominated the Yankees in their own ballpark again, pitching his third shutout of the season to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 1-0 win on a sunny, sticky Saturday afternoon. Hernandez outpitched Hiroki Kuroda in a duel of pitchers who haven't lost since June. Mike Carp hit an RBI single in the second inning for Seattle, which bounced back from having its seven...

Ichiro gets double against Mariners with help from the sun (Video)

Mike Tyson Makes Broadway Debut: a Homecoming Fit for a King

The 46-year old Tyson, originally from the rough streets of Brooklyn, opened the show with a welcome and a comical promise. “Welcome to my living room. You will all leave with two ears.” The...

Stand by Your Man

In Sunday’s 6-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners, Ichiro got plunked in the back of the knee in the fifth inning on a 2-2 pitch from Hishashi Iwakuma. It was the second time Mariner pitchers hit Ichiro in six games between them (Felix Hernandez hit him in the same game in Seattle that he hit Jeter and put A-Rod on the DL with a broken hand). So that’s twice Seattle pitchers...

Yankeetorial: We lost Saturday's game before it started

This is what we know. Ellen Degeneres will never eat at Chick fil-A. Dick Cheney will never die. And the Yankees will never score a run off Felix Hernandez. Ever. The world will end first. The big bang will run its course, time and space will begin to contract, and all matter - except for Dick Cheney - will be repressurized into a spec that is roughly the size of Rupert Murdoch&...
