The beauty of the Vernon Wells trade

We are all a fan of some team.  Even the self-proclaimed objective journalists grew up rooting for someone.  It’s simple human nature.  I’m an Angels fan, and as such I don’t have a great deal of love for the Yankees.  So it would make sense that I love the Vernon Wells trade.  It removes an unproductive player from my favorite team and inserts him into the lineup...

Should Peter Bourjos really play center field over Mike Trout?

Since this is my first post ever, I feel obligated to admit two things up front. First, I am obsessed with baseball statistics; so my posts will be more stats driven than most of you care about. Second, I love cheesy jokes, especially cheesy baseball jokes. For those brave enough to continue, thanks. There are a lot of important questions I considered writing about. What will...

The Yankees, trying to addressing their offensive needs, are engaged in "very active talks" to acquire Angels outfielder Vernon Wells, according to a major league source. Wells, 34, is owed salaries of $21 million in each of the next two seasons. The Angels almost certainly would need to pay the bulk of that money to facilitate a trade. The Yankees are under the impression...

Remembering the best moments of the Vernon Wells era

Vernon Wells is gone but he won't be forgotten, though most of us probably want to. In the interest of fairness to a player who was universally maligned from almost the exact second he was acquired, let's take an exhaustive look at the highlights of his Angel career: June 28th, 2011 against the Nationals - Vernon went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, three runs scored...

Angels 11, White Sox 5

Playing their regulars for the second consecutive day, the Los Angeles Angels showed there is more to their loaded lineup than Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. Chris Iannetta and Alberto Callaspo homered off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, and Mark Trumbo drove in two runs with a double to help the Angels beat Chicago 11-5 on Monday. ''The offensive chemistry...

Angels close to Wells deal with Yankees

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Vernon Wells is on the verge of becoming the latest addition to the New York Yankees' injury-depleted lineup. New York neared an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday to acquire the 34-year-old outfielder, who has slumped since hitting 32 homers with 106 RBIs for Toronto in 2006.
