Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is expected to join the team around mid-season. On Friday the 26-year-old Beachy threw batting practice.
Friday’s session was the latest step forward for Beachy as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Thus far Beachy has not run into any problems since he began throwing in spring training.
In 13 starts last season Beachy compiled a 5-5 record, a 2.00 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.
With Beachy missing the start of the season Julio Teheran won the fifth spot in the Braves rotation. In his 4 starts Teheran has a team worst 5.48 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. Teheran had his best outing of the season in his last start at Colorado when he went seven innings allowing a lone run.

♡ It feels like they start the All-Star ballot earlier every year. I was really excited to see Chris Johnson listed as our 3B option, though. He's doing so well this year. Anyway, you know the drill: vote early, vote often.
♡ In case you missed JHey's tweet about his surgery, you can read it here. I especially liked this part, because...
Upton is already setting records in Atlanta
Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton is only 3 home runs away from tying the all-time April record for home runs. Upton now has 11 home runs this season, Albert Pujols (2006) and Alex Rodriguez (2007) are tied for the all-time record with 14.
Upton has already eclipsed the Braves all-time record for April homers. His 11th round-tripper...
The Braves knew that going into Colorado they were going to be facing tough weather. However, they had no idea that Colorado would bring a postponed game, a doubleheader, and the loss of right fielder Jason Heyward to a burst appendix. With game 1 postponed due to snow flurries and poor visibility, the Braves and Rockies squared off in a doubleheader Tuesday with a game time temperature...
Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Rick Camp has died in northwest Georgia.
Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton says 60-year-old Camp was found dead Thursday morning at his home in Rydal, about 55 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Camp's cause of death wasn't immediately known.
According to the Atlanta Braves' website, Camp played with the team between 1976 and 1985. The...
We hear the justifications every year, when stars struggle early in their debut seasons with new teams: He's adjusting ... He's pressing ... He's settling in ... He's trying to do too much ... It's not easy to change divisions/leagues/cities/positions.
Then there's Justin Upton.
In his first month as an Atlanta Brave, he's been the best player on the...
McCann hit two home runs last night in his first rehab game.
With last night’s loss Atlanta no longer has the best record in the major leagues. That distinction is now owned by the Texas Rangers.
The Braves not only lost last night, but they did it in grand style. The 10-0 loss was the worst defeat since May 16, 2009 when the Braves were pasted 12-0 by the Diamondbacks.
The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to one of the best starts in baseball, and they've been able to do so without catcher Brian McCann. The veteran backstop is recovering from shoulder surgery, but he could rejoin the team soon, as David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports McCann is set to begin his minor league rehab assignment tonight.
Just in case you...
Taking three cuts following the Braves' 7-4 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park on Saturday.
1. Has Medlen come back down to earth?
Kris Medlen got off to an impressively odd start, scoring his first out before pitching a strike.
He walked Austin Jackson on four pitches before picking him off. Medlen now has 12 pickoffs since the start of last season, a figure only bested...

Justin Upton has been off the charts to begin the 2013 season
In the 2012/2013 MLB off-season, a lot of rumors were swirling around the Arizona Diamondbacks and their young 25 year old phenom Justin Upton. Upton was in the middle of all sorts of trade rumors during the 2012 season and was also bothered by a nagging thumb injury in which he sustained in the 3rd game of the Diamondbacks...
Atlanta Braves left-hander Paul Maholm knew his shutout streak would eventually end. Surprisingly, facing the Detroit Tigers could help him put more zeros up on the scoreboard.
Maholm goes for a team-high fourth victory Friday night when the NL East-leading Braves and struggling Tigers meet for the first time in three seasons.
Opening his first full season with Atlanta (15-6),...
10-10, 2nd place, 1.5 games behind KC.
On the heels of an incredibly disappointing 1-5 stretch, the Tigers welcome the best team in baseball thus far, the Atlanta Braves, to the D. The Braves are 15-6 and an incredible 9-4 on the road. Their early season success is entirely attributable to their sparkling pitching. You ready for this?
Team ERA: 2.52 (Tigers: 3.91)
