Brandon Beachy will not throw for ten days. The advise to take some time off comes from Dr. James Andrews after Beachy was forced to the disabled list on Friday with inflammation. After taking the time off the 26-year-old right hander will again visit Andrews. Beachy underwent Tommy John surgery last June and had worked his way back to the big league level. The Braves have replaced Beachy in the rotation with Paul Maholm. Beachy made five starts between July 29 and Aug. 20 going 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Beachy had pitched six or more innings in each of his last four starts.

Braves notebook: Beachy avoids surgery

ATLANTA -- After spending a nerve-wracking day in Pensacola, Fla. -- the headquarters of Dr. James Andrews' practice -- Brandon Beachy looked relieved as he addressed reporters before Tuesday's game against the Indians: he will not need surgery on his inflamed right elbow. Andrews did tell Beachy and the Braves doctors that there is an ample amount of unwanted fluid, but...

Braves' Brandon Beachy has no structural damage in elbow

There is a chance Brandon Beachy will pitch again this year for the Atlanta Braves.  The young pitcher coming off Tommy John surgery began feeling forearm discomfort resulting in him being shut down and sent off to see Dr. James Andrews.  Fortunately, there is no structural damage in Beachy's elbow, and his prognosis looks good. According to Carrol Rogers of the Atlanta...

Elliot Johnson nails Harry Caray impression

The Atlanta Braves are poised to win their first National League East division title in 9 years (up 13 games in the standings) and recently acquired utility infielder Elliot Johnson off waivers from the Kansas City Royals to add depth.  While Johnson may not make much of a difference on the diamond, as a career .212 hitter with just 12 HR in 650+ AB, he may be a great fit in the...

Dan Uggla looks to return to Braves after Lasik

It looks like Dan Uggla may be back in the Braves lineup Wednesday when the Braves take on the Indians in the second of a three game set. “We’ll check with him this evening, but I think he’ll be here tomorrow,” Gonzalez said after Tuesday night’s 2-0 win against the Indians. “He got seven at-bats the last two days. His timing is getting better and better, so hopefully...

Uggla Makes Rehab Start Tonight

The Atlanta Braves have announced that second baseman Dan Uggla will make a rehab start tonight with the Gwinnett Braves.  The G-Braves will take on the Norfolk Tides at 6 p.m. Uggla has been on the 15-day disabled list since August 13 for Lasik eye surgery.  The Braves second baseman told the media last week that his eyesight is now 20/15. With Jason Heyward going down last week...

Has Wood Made Beachy’s 2013 Return Irrelevant?

The Atlanta Braves hoped that Brandon Beachy could recover from his Tommy John surgery and regain his old form the last couple months of the regular season, and especially the playoffs.  Beachy was the Braves best starter last season, and it was hoped that he could be a top of the rotation pitcher again by playoff time. The way Alex Wood has pitched, the need for Brandon Beachy...

Three Cuts: Johnson delivers first walk-off hit to top Tribe

ATLANTA -- Chris Johnson's mindset was simple. "You go up there thinking, 'Alright, you want me, you got me,'" he said. The Indians' Joe Smith walked All-Star Freddie Freeman with one on, two outs and the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday at Turner Field to get to Johnson. Hitless in his first four plate appearances, Johnson was down...

Braves' Chris Johnson unable to go thanks to turf toe

It's an injury you see more often in football than baseball, but the Atlanta Braves were without the services of Chris Johnson yesterday thanks to turf toe.  Johnson suffered the injury on Saturday and had to be scratched from yesterday's lineup.  The Braves have an off day Monday, so Johnson will get some extra rest. #Braves Chris Johnson scratched from lineup due...

Braves Elliot Johnson Goes on a NASCAR Riff During Interview

((ht: mlb.com)) Yeah, this is pretty funny if you are a Sports fan. Assuming you know who Elliot Johnson is anyway. The Atlanta Braves second baseman was the star of Tuesday nights 2-0 win when he hit a 2-run triple in the 3rd inning providing the Braves with all the runs they'd need to win the game. Then there is this. After the game, Fox Sports South Braves reporter...

Johnson lifts Braves over Tribe

Chris Johnson watched the winning run slide across the plate, then braced himself for the celebration. This time, he was in the middle of it. Johnson singled with two outs in the ninth inning for his first career walk-off hit and the Atlanta Braves won again at home, beating the Cleveland Indians 3-2 on Wednesday night. Jordan Schafer drove in Atlanta's first two runs. He...

2013 Fantasy Baseball: The Unheralded Mike Minor

Source: Scott Cunningham/Getty Images North America Mike Minor is quite possibly the best pitcher in the major leagues who is never talked about. There are plenty of good pitchers to praise, so I don’t feel slighted at all that Minor’s name rarely comes up in casual discussions about the top tier of current pitching. The former first round draft pick has turned himself into...

Wood, Braves roll over Indians

Rookie Alex Wood isn't just learning on the job for the Atlanta Braves. The left-hander keeps winning, too. ''Today wasn't one of his best outings,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said. ''He was spraying it around a little bit and got his pitch count up, but he's tough to take swings at.'' Wood pitched five-plus strong innings, Elliot Johnson...

Braves' Uggla activated from DL

The Atlanta Braves have activated second baseman Dan Uggla from the disabled list, two weeks after he underwent eye surgery.

Elliot Johnson Should Do All Interviews

When the Atlanta Braves acquired Elliot Johnson, my guess is that they never expected the light hitting second baseman to do more than provide some relief to their current crop of infielders. However...dude is quickly becoming the "go to" guy when it comes to interviews. Over the weekend, the former Kansas City Royal did his best impersonation of Will Ferrell'...

Sand Gnats Get Squashed In 14-1 Loss

Rome 14, Savannah 1 Every starter in the Rome Braves’ lineup had at least one hit and top pitching prospect Lucas Sims went five innings to notch his 11th win in a 14-1 rout of the Savannah Sand Gnats on Tuesday night. It was the largest margin of defeat for the Gnats this season, topping the 11-run deficit to Augusta in an 11-0 loss on May 17. Savannah (72-58) has lost six of...
