During a Q&A session, the first baseman was asked for his thoughts about the Dodgers’ willingness to open up the checkbook lately. Belt wasn’t afraid to throw some shade: “All I can say is, you can’t buy chemistry.” Burn. The crowd predictably erupted with cheers. It’s no secret he Dodgers have been throwing around the cash, like they’re the sports franchise version of a rap video. They used their deep pockets to throw $147 million at Zack Greinke in November. Of course, by then it was abundantly clear they weren’t afraid to pull the trigger on expensive, risky moves. At the trade deadline last season the Dodgers traded for Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett and their $276 million in salary, after which the team subsequently nosedived in the standings.
