Boston Red Sox
BOSTON -- Recalled from the minors to make his first major league start since late April, Jair Jurrjens pitched a solid 7 2/3 innings, and the Atlanta Braves halted Boston's five-game winning streak Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. Andrelton Simmons drove in two runs, and Jason Heyward went 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored two runs for the Braves, who just took two of three from the Yankees in New York. Atlanta has won three straight after losing seven of eight. The Red Sox (36-34) failed to go a season-high four games over .500. Jon Lester (4-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on 10 hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked one. Jurrjens (1-2) held Boston to one single over seven innings before Will Middlebrooks and Daniel Nava chased him with doubles in the eighth. He allowed one run, three hits and one walk while striking out four. The Braves led 2-0 before they added a run in the sixth when Heyward doubled, advanced on a flyout o...

AROUND THE WEB
The Boston Red Sox are more than motivated to trade oft injured 3B Kevin Youkilis, and they are inclined to do so sooner rather than later, according to multiple sources. Youkilis was benched for the third consecutive game, although he says he is healthy enough to play.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine says he has spoken with Youkilis as to why he has decided to sit him...
LET'S MAKE A DEAL
The Red Sox have been shopping Kevin Youkilis pretty hard and reportedly are close to dealing him to another team.
FVP has stayed away from the Boston Red Sox this season, for the most part. We've known for some time what David Ortiz is talking about, and we'll share a little bit on our end; it's no fun for us, either, Papi. It's pretty much the pre-2004 bleep-hole David talks about. Here's a little secret, Dave; it's about winning. In case you missed it, the Red Sox DH...

BOSTON –– This could the jumpstart that Dustin Pedroia needed. Since returning on June 5 –– after missing six games with a torn adductor muscle in his thumb –– Pedroia has sputtered at the plate, collecting just nine hits through 14 games heading into Saturday's 8-4 win over the Braves. But he finally exploded on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. In his second...
There has to be a little irony in the fact that David Ortiz took a chance to vent his frustrations about reporters drumming up controversy -- by going on a tirade to reporters, as he did Thursday. Well, rather than being a case of controversy begetting controversy, NESN.com's Didier Morais thinks that Ortiz's rant may have been a little more premediated than it seemed. Was...
BOSTON –– The indecision around third base has continued. In fact, the flip-flopping between Will Middlebrooks and Kevin Youkilis doesn't have any clarity. For the time being, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine expressed his intention to ride the "hot hand" at third base. It starts on Friday with Middlebrooks, who will make his second straight start in the infield...
Roger Clemens returned to Fenway Park on Friday night as he sat in the front row of the Monster Seats to watch the Boston Red Sox play the Atlanta Braves.
Clemens, who pitched for the Red Sox between 1984 and 1996, was shown on the scoreboard before the start of the fourth inning and received a mix of cheers and boos. It was one of Clemens' first public appearances since...

Bobby Valentine is now nearly halfway through his first season in Boston, and the results have been mixed. The Red Sox are still hanging around the .500 mark on the season, even amidst a bevy of injuries, and are hoping to improve on their inconsistent play as the likes of Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury and others return. David Ortiz has been the most consistent and dangerous Red...
The Red Sox are officially out of the basement! Big Papi is on the best stuff money can buy and just absolutely mashing the ball. Mike Aviles is the best shortstop since Nomar. Felix Doubront is one of the most consistent pitchers in the league. The offense has finally woken up. The Yankees and Orioles are in the beginning stages of what are hopefully terrible losing streaks. Jacoby...
Franklin Morales had his second spot start for Josh Beckett who is on the DL and once again he showed a lot of promise. I think a lot of people have Franklin Morales on their radar now that did not before, in a very good way.
Morales didn't have the best first inning, however he only allowed one run to score and settled down real well after that. Morales started the game...
Don't look now folks but this "toxic" Boston Red Sox team is playing some good baseball right now.
The Red Sox rallied last night behind the "youth" of the organization for a 6-5 win over the Miami Marlins. The win gave the local nine a sweep of the three-game set with the Marlins and it was also their fifth straight win.
They now hold a one-game lead...
Ryan Kalish has been a solid contributor for the Red Sox in his return to the lineup over the past four games. And the 24-year-old feels confident in how his transition is progressing. His presence in the outfield, along with his ability at the plate have seemed to mesh quite nicely with the big league club so far. Kalish was hitting .250 and knocked in an RBI heading into Thursday...
Given everything that's happening around the Boston Red Sox right now, you'd think they were about 10 games under .500. That's simply not the case.
After last night's 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves, the Red Sox are still a last place team but are three games above .500 at 37-34. And as I said the other day, it's still too early to talk about the wild card...
