The Atlanta Braves sent outfielder Christian Marrero to Pittsburgh for infielder Brian Friday on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. The Braves need infield depth with injuries to shortstops Andrelton Simmons and Jack Wilson. Marrero, who had played at both Class AA and Class AAA this season for Atlanta, is expected to replace promoted Starling Marte at Class AAA Indianapolis for Pittsburgh.

The Atlanta Braves have not made a blockbuster trade for a starting pitcher as many thought they would have by now with the Tuesday trade deadline looming. Braves' Monday blues end via Twitter
ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones has had his Twitter account for a week and it's already been responsible for adding nonsensical words to the English language, creating a flood of Internet interest, causing a sleepless night for his manager and attracting an army of about 77,000 followers.
Jones had even pointed out several times via @RealCJ10, of course that the Braves had not lost...

James McDonald struggled in his first two starts after the All-Star break. He allowed 10 earned runs over 9.2 innings with nine walks to just four strikeouts. McDonald’s last trip to the bump at PNC Park on Tuesday against Chicago was a step forward. Although he allowed five earned runs over six frames, he saw his curve back and racked up six strikeouts. The...
Braves 8, Marlins 2
Jason Heyward homered and scored three runs and the Atlanta Braves snapped a string of 16 straight losses on Mondays, including 12 this season, by beating the Miami Marlins 8-2 on Monday night.
Starting pitcher Tommy Hanson was the only Atlanta player or coach who did not wear high socks in an apparent old-school fashion attempt to end the Monday curse.
Hanson (12-5) still had...

Basic Pitching and Batting Metrics of 90 Win Teams
Earlier in the year I noted that the Pirates low BABIP wasn’t driving their poor offense. The conclusion being that both OBP and SLG proved to be more valuable in scoring runs. They haven’t been playing great but have been finding ways to win while some guys are struggling. Those guys will likely come back around again so just gotta keep scratching out wins. [...]
