CHICAGO (AP) -- Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected in the seventh inning of Monday night's game against the Chicago Cubs by home plate umpire Chris Conroy. After Chicago's David DeJesus was hit by a pitch from reliever Eric O'Flaherty, Conroy warned both benches, prompting Gonzalez to come out of the dugout and seconds later he was ejected. Atlanta's Jason Heyward had been hit by a pitch in the top of the inning.

Cubs designate Blake DeWitt for assignment

The Chicago Cubs have designated Blake DeWitt for assignment, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports. The move was necessary as the team needed room on the roster for Sunday's starter, Travis Wood.
