PLAYERS: Jordan Walden
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves reliever Jordan Walden's previously ailing shoulder continues to feel good, but manager Fredi Gonzalez still doesn't expect the right-hander to come off the disabled list when he's eligible on Monday, according to Carroll Rogers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Walden played catch for the second day in a row yesterday, and he says his shoulder continues to feel good. Still, the Braves want him to throw a bullpen session before heading out for at least two minor league rehab appearances. After that, they will evaluate him for activation from the DL. While he won't be back as soon as eligible, Walden's been happy with how his shoulder's responded thus far. He threw from 150 feet Tuesday and said he expected to throw a bullpen today or soon after. Walden first experienced issues with his shoulder earlier this month. He continued to pitch through discomfort -- allowing five runs over only 1 1/3 innings -- before Atlanta placed him on the DL. He told Rogers that his shoulder feels as good as it has for almost the entire season. The loss of Walden has been magnified considering the Braves have recently watched Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty receive season-ending diagnosis. Time to bench B.J. Upton?

The hot Atlanta Braves are having arguably the best offensive season in the history of the club, and one of the biggest offseason acquisitions this year, is off to his worst start ever. B.J. Upton was considered the crown jewel of the offseason for the Braves and for good reason. He was considered to have more upside than his brother Justin, and was coming off arguably his best offensive...

Braves Evan Gattis Amazes Manager Fredi Gonzalez

Evan Gattis has not disappointed Tuesday night Evan Gattis came through again for the Braves, driving a Glenn Perkins slider into the left field seats with two out in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, 4-4.  Gattis has hit nine home runs this season, four have been tying or go-head shots in the eighth inning or later. Whenever a player comes on the scene and has immediate...

Atlanta Braves News: Teammates Battle for Playing Time

The Atlanta Braves have continued playing excellent baseball since the completion of the Dodgers series on Sunday, as the team steamrolled right through the Minnesota Twins on their way to a 4 ½ game lead in the NL East over the Nationals. This great play, however, does not come without some difficulties; namely that the Braves have a roster full of talent but only nine positions...

While overshadowed, McCann's bat stays consistent

ATLANTA As media members jostled for position around Freddie Freeman and Evan Gattis, the Braves' late-inning stars against the Twins Tuesday night, Brian McCann's whereabouts remained unclear. The team's catcher was coming off one of his best games since returning from shoulder rehab, but there was no one there clamoring for a quote. And yet it was McCann who, in...

Fan catches B.J. Upton homer with his hat

I'm always going to be ridiculously impressed by fans who catch balls with their hat (which always has seemed to be some sort of impossible task for me), and this one in Atlanta yesterday is another fantastic play to add to the ledger. In the bottom of the fourth inning of the Braves' 8-3 win over the Twins, BJ Upton homered to left field against Vance Worley. This fan proceeded...

Gattis, Maholm lead Braves to 5th sweep of season

ATLANTA Around Memorial Day weekend, there are three baseline measures for determining if a balanced ballclub is on the path to 90-plus wins without figuratively breaking a sweat. 1. Dominate opponents at home. 2. Be consistently good against division foes. 3. Show little mercy against baseball's proverbial weaklings especially during Interleague play. On Wednesday, the...

Three Cuts: Gattis' slam, bench players help Braves rout Twins

ATLANTA -- Taking three cuts after the Braves' 8-3 win over the Twins at Turner Field on Wednesday. 1. No McCann? No J. Upton? No Simmons? No problem With a number of the Braves' starters out following Tuesday night's extra-innings, rain-delayed win manager Fredi Gonzalez sat some of his starters for the noon start, including Brain McCann, Justin Upton and Andrelton...

Evan Gattis does it again for Braves

Evan Gattis just keeps coming through for the Atlanta Braves. The rookie hit a two-out, pinch-hit homer in the ninth to send the game to extra innings and Freddie Freeman won it in the 10th, sending the Braves to their fifth straight win, 5-4 over the slumping Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Freeman blooped a two-out single off Brian Duensing (0-1) to bring home Jason Heyward...

11 Alive’s story on Evan Gattis

11 Alive ran a story on last night's 11:00 news that Gattis fans will enjoy.     11 Alive.com: TELLING THE STORY: The search for Evan Gattis (different story in that link than the video above) I haven't paid to subscribe to myajc.com (and I'm not sure if I will, we'll see), so I appreciate Mark Bradley sharing part of a story behind the curtain... The manager...

Braves 8, Twins 3

Evan Gattis kept up an amazing rookie season with his first grand slam, B.J. Upton and Ramiro Pena also homered, and the Atlanta Braves finished off a sweep of the woeful Minnesota Twins with a 8-3 rout on Wednesday. The Braves stretched their winning streak to six games with their second straight series sweep, making things easy for starter Paul Maholm (6-4). The left-hander held...

GIF: Fan makes impressive catch on home run by B.J. Upton

Tweet   Given the struggles of B.J. Upton thus far in his first season with the Atlanta Braves, his home run during Wednesday’s 8-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins could probably be referred to as an indescribably good play. Instead, that title belongs to the grab made by this gentleman to snag Upton’s long ball. [...]

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Dodgers 5-18-13

Do you think Gattis is tired of answering questions about his past? Do you think the media will ever stop talking about it?   Don't get me wrong, I like Gattis and I'm glad his (now) 10 homers are on my team. I just feel like his backstory is beyond the saturation point. To quote Oscar Wilde... Not that I'm calling Gattis either of those, but a lot of people are trying...

Twins own Braves on Twitter after getting swept

The Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday afternoon with an 8-3 victory at Turner Field.Although the Twins may have lost the battle on the diamond, they may have won the war on Twitter. It appears as though the two teams carried the hostilities from the field over into the social media world immediately after the contest. The Braves took...
