PLAYERS: Justin Upton
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves held outfielder Justin Upton out of their lineup for the second consecutive game with what manager Fredi Gonzalez called a sore right hand. While Gonzalez told reporters – including Joe DiGiovanni of MLB.com – that Upton was available to play, he wanted to give the slugger a chance to rest his hand for three straight days, including today’s off-day. "If we don't have to use him, we won't use him," Gonzalez said. "We'll match him up with the right guy. We thought that with yesterday and today, and tomorrow the scheduled day off, we would turn the corner and really be fine. Obviously, he could play the field, but the more time we give him off, the better he'll be." Prior to Saturday’s absence, Gonzalez said he was simply resting Upton. However, when Upton was also out of the starting lineup yesterday, he conceded that the outfielder’s hand had been bothering him for the past few days. Gonzalez said the hand was just a “little sore,” so it appears Upton should return to the lineup Tuesday. In his place, the Braves used Jordan Schafer. After getting off to a hot start, Upton has come back down to earth. Over 312 plate appearances, the 25-year-old has hit .240/.350/.454 with nine doubles and 15 home runs.  Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Braves drop series to Brewers, hold ground in NL East

Brian McCann snapped the Braves’ consecutive shutouts in game 3 with a grand slam in the 1st inning. When baseball writers use the phrase “feast or famine” in baseball, they usually apply it to streaky players. However, the Atlanta Braves’ offense is as streaky collectively as the most streaky player in the game. Never has this “feast or famine” pattern been more obvious...

The Statistical Worthiness of OBP and AVG

Dan Uggla has a great OBP, but his AVG is terrible.
