Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Tim Hudson fractured his left ankle in Atlanta's 8-2 win over the Mets on Wednesday night. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Eric Young Jr of the Mets hit a grounder to Freddie Freeman at first base. Freeman flipped to Hudson at first base, and Young came down awkwardly on Hudson's ankle.before going down in an immense amount of pain. You can check out a video of the play at MLB.tv. The 38-year old Hudson is 8-7 with a 3.97 ERA this year for Atlanta, his ninth season with the organization. Hudson is making $9 million this year, and will be a free agent after the season. With Brandon Beachy rehabbing in AAA from Tommy John surgery last summer, he'll likely end up taking Hudson's spot in the rotation. Atlanta put Paul Maholm, another starting pitcher, on the disabled list retroactive to Sunday with a wrist contusion, and his rotation spot will be taken by rookie Alex Wood, who will start Thursday's season finale at Citi Field. With their two longest tenured starters on the shelf, 27-year old Kris Medlen would be the oldest pitcher of Atlanta's starting five. [follow]
