Found April 07, 2013 on The Outside Corner:
The Atlanta Braves have placed first baseman Freddie Freeman on the disabled list with a strained oblique. He reportedly suffered the injury last Sunday during a workout and opted to play through it, but was visibly in pain during Saturday night's game with the Cubs, necessitating his placement on the DL before the injury gets even worse. Atlanta has called Blake DeWitt up from AAA Gwinnett to replace Freeman on the roster, but DeWitt likely will just serve as an extra bench bat for the squad. Chris Johnson and Juan Francisco will both taking full-time starting roles at the infield corners instead of platooning at third base. The Braves are without shortstop Andrelton Simmons for the timebeing as well after he injured his thumb sliding into second base on Friday night against the Cubs. Simmons missed two months of play in 2012 with a fractured right hand, an injury he also suffered sliding into second base. Freeman's cleanup spot in Atlanta's lineup is being fill...

Braves Freddie Freeman Angry Team put him on Disabled List

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, has had a pretty good start to the season. And since failure is more prominent than fortune in baseball, when players are experiencing consistent success at the plate, the last thing they want is for their at bats to be interrupted, especially by injury. Braves 2, Marlins 0

Justin Upton is hitting enough for an entire team. The slugging outfielder went 4 for 4, including his sixth home run, and Paul Maholm allowed one hit in seven innings to help the Atlanta Braves spoil the Miami Marlins' home opener Monday night by winning 2-0. Upton scored both runs and doubled the Marlins' hit total. The Braves won despite going 0 for 7 with runners in...

Braves 6, Cubs 5

B.J. and Justin Upton never had the nerve to imagine an ending like the one they provided Saturday night - not even after they both moved to the Atlanta Braves this offseason. Uptons make life more miserable for Marmol

BJ Upton (left) and Justin Upton became the first brothers in major league history to homer to tie, then win a game Saturday against Cubs closer Carlos Marmol. I mentioned earlier this week how Carlos Marmol has been absolutely dreadful for the Cubs. Now he’s so bad he’s in the record books. Marmol allowed the game-tying home run to B.J. Upton, then the walk-off winner to his...

Three Cuts: Simmons thriving in leadoff role

ATLANTA Taking three cuts after the Braves 4-1 win over the Cubs at Turner Field on Friday night. 1. Yes, He Is A Leadoff Hitter The knock on Andrelton Simmons entering his first season atop the order was that he wasn't a prototypical leadoff man. Last season the shortstop drew just 12 walks in 49 games, possessing a 6.6 rate that ranked 13th on the Braves. He had one stolen...
