The Atlanta Braves on Wednesday re-acquired outfielder Matt Diaz from the Pittsburgh Pirates, ESPN.com reported.
The Braves also received cash considerations and will send a player to be named to the Pirates.
Diaz, 33, played with the Braves from 2006-10 before signing a two-year, $4.25 million contract with the Pirates in the winter. He is owed $2 million next season.
Diaz played for Tampa Bay and Kansas City before joining Atlanta in 2006. His best season was 2009, when he batted .313 with career highs of 13 homers and 58 RBI.
Diaz is hitting .259 with 19 RBI this season. The Braves have an 8 1/2-game lead over St. Louis in the race for the National League wild card berth.
