It appears more and more likely that the Arizona Diamondbacks will part ways with outfielder Justin Upton prior to the start of the 2013 MLB season, and Buster Olney of ESPN believes the Atlanta Braves could be the “best fit” for the young slugger. Olney notes that depending on what the Texas Rangers decide to do, the Braves may well be the best fit for Upton. Texas and Atlanta have been two of the primary teams linked to the 25-year-old throughout the offseason. However, Olney notes that Texas may elect to hold onto top prospects such as Mike Olt, Jurickson Profar and Martin Perez to use at a later date to pursue Giancarlo Stanton and David Price, a pair of high-profile players that are expected to eventually become available. Unlike the Rangers, Olney believes the Braves would be willing to part with a “good package of prospects” for Upton. This would likely include one or two of Atlanta highly regarded young arms. Short Shots: Mets Wiggling Back In, Best Bullpen: Braves Or Nationals?

The more I keep saying that there’s no chance in hell that the Mets will trade for Justin Upton or Giancarlo Stanton, the more I keep reading stuff like this: However, if you’re a Mets fan who wants Upton (or Jason Kubel) now, root for Michael Bourn to a take a one-year deal with the Braves, and root for teams like the Rangers and others to hold off for Stanton. In that scenario...
