ATLANTA – Cliff Lee pitched seven shutout innings and drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to chase Tim Hudson from the game and lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

Martin Prado’s lead-off home run in the eighth inning off reliever B.J. Rosenberg provided the Braves’ only run.

“I felt like I was locating pretty good,” Lee said. “Mixing my off-speed pitches and staying out of the heart of the plate. When you’re doing that, it’s hard to hit.”

With shadows creeping across the infield in the late afternoon start, Hudson (13-5) got plenty of his patented ground-ball outs, but when the Phillies did hit him, they made it count.

“I just wasn’t very good today,” Hudson said. “That’s probably the worst stuff I’ve had all year.”

John Mayberry Jr. drove in a run in the first inning on a two-out single to center and Jimmy Rollins led off the third inning with a home run that glanced off the netting of the right field foul pole.

“I told (Rollins) I finally figured out how you can get out of running," manager Charlie Manuel said. "You can hit a home run and jog!” Manuel had pulled Rollins from Thursday’s game against the Mets for not running hard.

Speedy Juan Pierre scored twice, on Mayberry’s hit and from first base on Chase Utley’s two-out, fifth-inning double.

The Braves hadn’t faced Lee (4-7) this season, which is a good thing, given that they managed to get only five hits off him, Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman had two each, and didn’t get a runner past second base until Jason Heyward got there in the sixth inning, courtesy of a two-on, two-out walk to Freeman that loaded the bases. The struggling Brian McCann was up next and he popped out.

“I’m worried about our offense,” manager Fredi Gonzalez of Atlanta said. “We just aren’t swinging the bats at all. It’s easy to say the pichers are better than us, but enough of that.”

Notes: The Braves’ September call-ups are 1B Lyle Overbay, who signed a minor-league contract on Aug. 20; RHP Peter Moylan; C J.C. Boscan and OF Jose Constanza. INF/OF Jeff Baker, acquired from the Tigers before Friday’s midnight deadline, was flying from his home in Northern Virginia and was scheduled to arrive by the 4 p.m. game time. He made his Braves debut with a swinging strikeout in the seventh inning . ... CF Michael Bourn got the start off Saturday. OF Reed Johnson started in his place. Manager Fredi Gonzalez was trying to get as many right-handed bats in the line-up as possible facing Phillies LHP Cliff Lee. . ... OF Nate Schierholtz (broken right big toe) was activated from the 15-day disabled list, but the Phillies made no immediate minor-league call-ups. “I don’t foresee us doing a lot,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said before Friday’s game. And manager Charlie Manuel added: “What we’ve got right now, we want to play.”
