The Atlanta Braves have signed catcher Gerald Laird, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. The deal is for two years, though the financial details are not yet known and the deal is still pending a physical.
Laird will be Atlanta's new backup catcher after David Ross signed a multi-year deal with Boston.
Last season for the Tigers, Laird hit .282/.337/.374 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs in 174 at bats. In 2009, Laird appeared in 135 games for the Tigers and hit .225/.306/.320.
