The Atlanta Braves have wasted little time in finding a replacement to fill the role of backup catcher. Gerald Laird will take over the position formerly cocupied by David Ross. Ross signed with the Boston Red Sox earlier this offseason. Like Ross, the Braves have gotten themselves a pretty good backup behind the plate. Laird should prove to be a serviceable bat when he replaces Brian McCann in the lineup. Last season Laird batted .282/.337/.374 over 191 appearances at the plate for the Detroit Tigers. During his 10 year career, Laird has played for Texas, Detroit and St. Louis. The Braves are now likely to turn their focus to the outfield where they have two holes to fill. With Michael Bourn becoming a free agent and Martin Prado moving to third base (Chipper Jones retirement) the Braves will have to act fact to find productive players on the open market.

Laird gets two-year Braves deal

Catcher Gerald Laird will get $3 million for his two-year deal with the Atlanta Braves, and could earn up to $750,000 in performance bonuses if he plays more than expected. Laird was signed to be Brian McCann's backup after David Ross left for a $6.2 million, two-year deal with Boston. The 33-year-old Laird played for AL champion Detroit this past season, batting .282 with two...

Atlanta Braves Get Gerald Laird

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free agent catcher Gerald Laird.  Laird, 33, seems a good fit for the Braves, a team in need of a starting catcher for about a month before All-Star Brian McCann returns from shoulder surgery.  The veteran catcher just finished up a year with the American League Champion Detroit Tigers and despite the fact that his name conjures images...

Jones Tweets massive midseason bruise

James Carr @jamescarr89 In the city of Atlanta, Chipper Jones doesn't have to do very much to impress anymore. He played his entire career in Atlanta, set records, won titles, and is one of the biggest fan-favorites in Braves' lore. Jones retired this season, surely on his way to the Hall of Fame in five years, in part because his body couldn't take the wear and tear...

Chipper Jones Tweets Incredibly Disgusting Bruise Pic

Earlier in May of this year Braves third baseman took a groundball from B.J. Upton off of the leg and was diagnosed with a “left leg contusion.” We can only assume that retirement is a little boring for Chipper so today he decided to Tweet out a picture of the “contusion,” and it is horrible. Y’all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year...

Beware of Michael Bourn During Free Agency

Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images It’s no secret that the 2012 off-season doesn’t have the best free agent class. Being topped off by Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton is great, but it declines under them. After last year’s class, this year’s list of available players seems terrible. One free agent that will not be re-signing with his last club is Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael...

Braves Notes: Kimbrel deserves shot at Cy Young

Craig Kimbrel had an amazing, record-breaking season, so its just wrong hes not among the three finalists for the NL Cy Young that will be awarded today. It will go to either Los Angeles Clayton Kershaw, Washingtons Gio Gonzalez or New Yorks R.A. Dickey, but Kimbrel deserved to be among the finalists, if not the winner. I know, relievers never receive much consideration for baseballs...

Is Michael Bourn worth $20 million a year?

If your team is in the free agent market, there are a few things you root for. One would be this slugging god of a player who can hit the ball over the deepest fences. A Fielder-type of guy. Another on the wish list is a stud pitcher like Greinke or even Sanchez. And perhaps you would want a stud closer such as Soriano. For most fans, signing a player like Michael Bourn would not...

Braves sign Laird for two years

Catcher Gerald Laird signed two-year contract with the Atlanta Braves, according to multiple reports. Laird, 33, batted .282 with two homers in 191 plate appearances with the Detroit Tigers last season, but is a career .244 hitter. He will replace backup catcher David Ross, who signed with the Boston Red Sox.

Chipper Jones shows off nasty bruise

Nastylicious. We’ve seen our fair share of gnarly bruises around here (see Lepisto, Sami and Crain, Jesse), so when Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones recently tweeted out this photo of his horrifically bruised left ankle—the end result of a BJ Upton line drive off the leg early in the 2012 season—it really shouldn’t have made anyone squeamish in the least, seeing that we...

Chipper Jones tweeted a beautifully bruised ankle

Chipper Jones tweeted "Y'all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year? Be glad I left the bandage on!!! Yuck!" No, don't actually recall that play at all. Jones... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Chipper Jones Tweets Gross Picture of His Leg Injury

Chipper Jones took a trip to the disabled list in May after taking a line drive to the ankle. I’m pretty sure skin isn’t supposed to ever be that shade of purple, but hey, what do I know? See the photo here >>

Braves Rumors: Atlanta Interested in Cody Ross

The Atlanta Braves are interested in free agent outfielder Cody Ross, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, who’s also being pursued by several other teams, including the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox. Welcome Photo of David Ross joining the Red Sox

Photo Courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. Here is new Red Sox catcher David Ross, who signed with the team last week on a two-year deal worth 6.2 million. Ross is expected to help the Boston pitching staff get back on track as he is known as a good game caller and is well respect [...]

Braves turn sights to signing B.J. Upton

At one point the Atlanta Braves had hopes of signing both Torii Hunter and B.J. Upton. With Hunter signing a two year deal with the Detroit Tigers, the Braves are turning their sights solely to Upton. The Braves have two spots to fill in the outfield thanks to Michael Bourn becoming a free agency and [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other...
