The rumors swirling around Rodrigo Lopez proved true this evening as the Braves and free-agent pitcher, Rodrigo Lopez, agreed on a one-year deal with an invitation to Spring Training.
Lopez is a career 75-82 with a 4.85 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 184 home runs allowed and an opponent batting average of .280. Last season, with the Diamondbacks, he had a 5.00 ERA, a .286 average, 111 runs and a career high 37 home runs, although he did pitch 200 innings.
More than likely, he will begin the season with the Braves AAA team.
The move is one that is intended to give the Braves some pitching depth. It is funny, though, since the Braves already have pitching depth. But, it is never a bad idea to have a surplus of arms around.
