Found August 19, 2013 on BravesWire:
With a series win against the rival Nationals under their belt, the Braves wrapped their home stand with an impressive 19-3 record in their past 22 games. In their last 20 meetings with the Nats, the Braves have come away the victors 16 times. Going into New York, the Braves have an overall record in 2013 of 76-48 (.613) with a 15 1/2 game lead in the National League East. Phil Gosselin (2B) went 2-for-4 off Gio Gonzalez  on Sunday with a bunt single for his first big league hit. The story of the weekend appeared to be payback. In the last meeting of the Nationals and Braves, rookie Julio Teheran hit Bryce Harper and Harper barked at Teheran as he made his way down the baseline. Harper was then hit by 2 other Braves’ pitchers in the series. That bit of fireworks carried into this series when Stephen Strasburg either lost command or still wanted payback and hit Justin Upton in game 2. Whether he meant to or not, his command went out the window the next inning when he threw 3 wild pit...

Is Atlanta Braves Third Baseman Chris Johnson Really This Good?

It’s not often that the throw-in player of a trade ends up being just as important as the main piece that was acquired. Usually, the individual who is “thrown in” to a deal is typically used as a stopgap to fill a positional need while the team waits patiently for a prospect to develop. For the Atlanta Braves, they needed a third baseman coming into the year due to future...

Tori Svenson, 9-year-old cancer patient, befriends Braves' Dan Uggla

All the calls and texts were meaningful. When Penny Svenson moved away from her Columbus, Ga., home to take up temporary residence near Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta where her daughter, Tori, was receiving chemotherapy, family and friends reached out and were in constant contact. But one relative strangers interest touched Penny more than most. Braves second baseman Dan Uggla...

Three Cuts: Teheran stifles Nats as Braves take series

ATLANTA -- The Braves' domination of the Nationals continues. With a starting lineup that included just three regulars -- Freddie Freeman, Chris Johnson and B.J. Upton -- and saw recent call-up Philip Gosselin get his first two hits, Atlanta improved to 12-4 against its National League East rival, extended the division lead to 15 12 games and made it seven consecutive series...

Chopcast: Braves take another series from Nats amid tension

ATLANTA -- When it comes to the Washington Nationals, there's little that hasn't gone right for the Atlanta Braves this season. The runaway NL East leaders (and soon-to-be winners) have taken 12 of the two teams' 16 meetings thus far. Riding a streak of a seven-consecutive series wins, Atlanta holds onto a 14 12-game lead, the widest margin of any division in baseball...

Braves Battle Nationals But Lose Late

Strasburgh was head hunting Saturday night It was a really entertaining game on Saturday night between the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals, and it wasn’t  long before tempers flared and things boiled over from Friday night, when Bryce Harper was HBP twice.  After Jason Heyward’s leadoff homer, Stephen Strasburg hit Justin Upton with a pitch.  Everyone thought the 2...

Three Cuts: Braves run hot and cold in road loss to Mets

Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 4-3 road loss to the Mets on Tuesday. 1. It's crunch time for Brandon Beachy, even though Atlanta is cruising toward a division title OK, so nobody would ever confuse the current New York lineup (sans David Wright) with the 1927 Yankees or even the 1984 Mets, but Beachy still deserves props for his stellar work in the first...

Braves 2, Nationals 1

Julio Teheran pitched around trouble through six scoreless innings and a tired Atlanta bullpen held on as the Braves beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Sunday. The Braves won two of three in the series and stretched their NL East lead over the second-place Nationals to 15 1/2 games. Both teams exhausted their bullpens in the Nationals' 8-7 win in 15 innings on Saturday night...

How I Spent My Saturday Night and Sunday Morning: Braves vs. Nationals

So...we went back to see the beloved Braves play again Saturday night. And much like the previous weekend, to say the game was bizarre would be a gross understatement. Read about the Braves Jinx from last weekend RIGHT HERE Yes, we caught a lot of grief for going to our first game of the year last weekend, which just happened to coincide with the Braves 14-game winning streak...

Bryce Harper on umpire Marvin Hudson: "I just told him how good he was and how good he looked."

And so, Bryce Harper was called out on a check swing to end the game by third base umpire Marvin Hudson, and just like that the Nats drop 2 of 3 to the Braves. Meanwhile, there's nothing like an umpire sticking himself right into the mix when you have a match-up like Harper-Kimbrell with a game on the line in the 9th. Here's Harper on Hudson's call: "I think...

Braves Squeak Past Nationals

Julio Teheran pitched six scoreless innings on Sunday After Saturday’s marathon, the Atlanta Braves bench players were able to get a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The series win for the Braves cuts their magic number down to 24 games. Brian McCann, Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, and Andrelton Simmons all sat out after the long game on Saturday. The...

Wheelr, Mets down Braves

Zack Wheeler once again zeroed in on the Atlanta Braves. The Mets rookie beat the NL East leaders for the third time, pitching shutout ball into the seventh inning and sending New York past Atlanta 5-3 Tuesday night. "I feel pretty comfortable against them," he said. "Not to bash them, but it was a pretty easy game plan." Wheeler improved to 3-0 with a 2.89...

Braves-Mets Preview

With his team maintaining its sizable lead in the NL East, the Atlanta Braves' Brandon Beachy can focus on continuing his recent resurgence. Beachy tries to improve to 3-0 since returning from Tommy John surgery and help the red-hot Braves match their longest road win streak of the season in Tuesday night's series opener against the visiting New York Mets. Atlanta (76-48...

Heyward,Young & Thomas on the defense

courtesy photo Paul Sancya/AP I can’t let good defense go unnoticed as Heyward, Thomas & Young made some  tremendous catches on Monday night for their respective teams.  None of them are part of a law firm nor in contentions of getting a Gold Glove this year but all three made another night of Major League Baseball worth watching. Here is Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward...

FOXSports.com MLB power rankings

By Shawn Ramsey FOXSports.com 1 Braves 76-48 Julio Teheran has only lost twice in his last 10 starts and picked up his 10th win of the season Sunday against the Nationals as the Braves continue to be the best team in the league. 2 Dodgers 72-52 3 There is no hotter team than the Dodgers.
