Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the San Francisco Giants and Jeremy Affeldt have agreed on a 3-year, $18 million deal that would end after the 2015 season. The 33-year-old left-hander has spent his last four seasons with the Giants, winning two World Series championships and holding a career-best 2.73 ERA throughout his tenure with the team. Last season, in 63 innings he posted a 2.70 ERA and 8.1 K/9. His postseason numbers are even more impressive. In 14 1/3 innings pitched in the playoffs with the Giants in both 2010 and 2012, Affeldt has kept a 1.26 ERA with a .125 batting average against. Although Affeldt has had a few freak accidents to prevent him from pitching (cutting his hand at a family BBQ), he has proven he is worthy of a big contract. Let’s face it, he has been the backbone of this team’s bullpen and is a very valuable pitcher for the Giants. I know there was a big freak out about his previous one-year contract after 2011 that cost the Giants $5 million, but I believe he is worth every penny. This looks to be the beginning of the Giants busy offseason. Marco Scutaro, Angel Pagan and (ahem…) Nick Swisher have yet to be signed and the Giants look interested in all of them.
