Another Blue Jays pitcher has taken the bump as a result of ineffectiveness, as Brett Cecil was demoted to AAA earlier this afternoon following yet another struggle on the mound last night against the Yankees. I mentioned yesterday that the team would have to look at its options to correct whatever Cecil is missing before sending him out on the mound to be shelled, and it looks like a temporary demotion is what they’ve decided on. Throughout spring training, Cecil has struggled with the velocity on his fastball – it’s not an overpowering pitch by any means, but when you used to have 91mph to set up your secondary stuff, and it drops down to 87, it makes sitting on the pitch a lot easier for batters.
