Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list in the near future in order to allow him enough time to get comfortable before the postseason.
Weeks has been sidelined since July 27 because of a severely sprained ankle. He has run in the outfield and taken ground balls at second but has yet to run the base paths so far.
The team has not yet announced a specific date for his return.
The Brewers entered Tuesday's game against St. Louis with a 10.5-game lead over the Cardinals in the NL Central.
Weeks is batting .272 with 19 homers and 43 games in 104 games. Jerry Hairston has made 17 starts at second base in Weeks' absence.
