MILWAUKEE After an unprecedented year of success for the Brewers in 2011, with Milwaukee winning the NL Central and coming just short of a World Series appearance, the organization announced Tuesday that it has extended the contracts of current general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke. Melvin's extension also includes a promotion, officially naming him the Brewers' president of baseball operations. As the new president, Melvin's contract will be extended through 2015, while Roenicke's deal as manager will extend through the 2014 season with a club option for 2015. Last season, as the Brewers won a franchise-record 96 games, Melvin was named Executive of the Year by Baseball America and Co-executive of the Year by Sporting News. "In two of the past four years, we reached significant milestones by advancing to the postseason, and we have reached a point where we expect to field a perennially competitive team," Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio said in a release. This was one of my highest priorities when I first became involved with the Milwaukee Brewers, and we could not have accomplished it without the efforts of Doug Melvin. ... Doug is one of the most respected leaders in the industry, and he is a key resource for me as we continue to work toward building a championship team." Roenicke during his first season at the helm of the Brewers after coming from Mike Scioscia's Los Angeles Angels staff finished in second in NL Manager of the Year voting last season as a result of Milwaukee's 2011 success. Ron has been a tremendous addition to our staff and his leadership is instrumental in not only guiding a successful team, but also developing one of the best clubhouse environments in all of baseball," Melvin said in the release. He and his staff have worked tirelessly to put us in a great position to win, and he has been very supportive of everything we are looking to accomplish." Follow Ryan Kartje on Twitter.
