The Brewers have agreed to sign Livan Hernandez, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. It appears Hernandez will initially help out in the bullpen but will be able to help out in the rotation if need.
Hernandez was released by the Braves earlier this week after he was designated the week prior.
Hernadez signed with the Braves in March after he was released by the Astros. He posted a 4.94 ERA with 5.5 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 31 innings out of the bullpen for Atlanta.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy, who is tied for the Major League lead in ERA, had successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday and is expected to be out of action for about a year. Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation, had decided on Wednesday that Beachy would not be able to avoid surgery on the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Beachy...
Diagnosed with elbow tightness that caused him to miss his last scheduled start, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.
The move is retroactive to June 15, which means Marcum will miss only one week's worth of action. To take his place on the active roster, first baseman Travis Ishikawa who had been on the 15-day DL with an...
Martin Prado's versatility got a workout while both third baseman Chipper Jones (sore left knee) and first baseman Freddie Freeman (swollen left index finger) were out with their injuries.
Prado is Jones' primary backup, but he replaced Freeman at first base twice versus the Orioles last weekend and in the first game of the weekday series against the Yankees. To no one&...
This is exactly what Jair Jurrjens needed.
In turn, this is exactly what the Braves wanted to see from Jurrjens.
And it would have been tough to find anyone who could have predicted this kind of a performance from a guy who spent the past eight weeks in minor league exile.
I thought he would get rocked and rolled and be gone by the third inning.
But there was Jurrjens on Friday...
MILWAUKEE With his bullpen overused and struggling in its last few outings, Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke made a joking plea on Wednesday to starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo. "A nine-inning shutout would be really nice," Roenicke said, with a laugh. But in the past two seasons of baseball for the Brewers and really for all of MLB complete, nine-inning performances...
Jair Jurrjens made an impressive return to the majors by limiting the Boston Red Sox to one run and three hits, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 win on Friday night.
Jurrjens, an All-Star last season when he topped the Braves with 13 wins, worked 7 2-3 innings and left after allowing an RBI double by Daniel Nava that drove in Will Middlebrooks, who led off the eighth with a double...
The Game Score statistic was developed by Bill James as a way of giving pitchers a score for each game they pitch. A closer look at how the stat is calculated will be discussed later in this post. The statistic is a way to rate starting pitchers. The average starting pitching Game Score is 49 to 51 (depending on the year). This season's league average is 51. R.A. Dickey currently...
The series opener between the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers was a classic pitchers' duel. The middle game at U.S. Cellular Field doesn't seem like it will follow suit.Batters could take the spotlight Saturday night, when the recently recalled Dylan Axelrod takes the ball for the White Sox against the Brewers' Randy Wolf, who is mired in a nine-start winless drought...

Milwaukee Brewers fans’ perceptions of the Chicago White Sox, in 2012, lean toward ambiguity. Is it slow-burning animosity, general loathing, or warm, fuzzy compassion? When the Brewers switched to the National League in 1998, the rivalry between the Brewers and White Sox was lost, aside from the occasional interleague matchup. The latest clash begins Friday at U.S. Cellular...
