Throughout the Alex Rodriguez and Biogenesis scandals, the third baseman and the Yankees have been painted as adversaries, particularly general manager Brian Cashman. However, Cashman’s former mistress is claiming that the G.M. was much more knowledgeable of and complicit with the team’s use of performance-enhancing drugs than has been let on. Back in early 2012, an extramarital affair Cashman had became public knowledge when his wife filed for divorce. The couple had been living apart for about a year after an extortion attempt by Cashman’s mistress. That same mistress, Louise Meanwell, told her lawyer that Cashman knew about PED use among Yankees players, according to a court document filed Sunday relating to Cashman’s stalking and extortion charges against Meanwell. Cashman said that he didn’t care about PED use so long as it didn’t hurt the team’s reputation, and actively misled investigators looking into allegations against then-Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, according to Meanwell and the document. Moreover, there may be a conflict of interests between Meanwell and Rodriguez’s cases, according to The Village Voice. Meanwell’s former lawyer is Stephen Turano, whose partner is Joseph Tacopina, who is currently representing Rodriguez. Meanwell’s current lawyer claims there is a conflict since Meanwell could end up testifying in Major League Baseball’s ongoing PED investigation. Check out the court document below.
