It's official, Scott Kazmir has switched places with James Shields and will start game 5 of the ALCS against the Red Sox at Fenway Park tonight. The Rays lead the series 3 games to 1, a familiar spot for the Sox in recent years (2004 and 2007). The thinking behind this, or so I'm told, is that Shields is 0-3 against Boston in Fenway this year and Kazmir has a good record against the Red Sox, even at Fenway. Some have speculated that Shields may be hurt, but I didn't see evidence of that in game 1. He was just barely out-pitched in that game by Matsuzaka. Both men pitched well enough to win! I hope the Rays aren't counting their chickens before they hatch by making this move to better position their rotation for the World Series. Things have a tendency to come back to haunt you when you do things like that and some have mentioned something about a curse in Boston before. Could Joe Maddon and the Rays be creating their own curse by making such a move? You decide…...

  • I agree. The Sox have proven they will bite you if you let them. I believe the winner in game six is going to win the series. Personally, The Sox scare me more than TB. We'll see if Tampa is looking too far ahead. Go Philies!!!
  • I'd be worried about these Rays, too! They are no push overs any more. They could easily challenge the Phillies as much as the Red Sox could. They have weapons that are different than that of the Sox. Don't take them too lightly! :-)
  • ...I'm not saying TB are pushovers. I just think The Bosox have been there before as they are proving now having tied the series at 3. They know how to win in the playoffs. Just feel that having TB and Philly whos players for the most part really have never played in a World Series before are a better matchup. Plus the fact everytime the Red Sox and Phils have met, basically the Sox have manhandled us. We'll see. Either way I'm looking forward to it. I do feel this may be the year we get that monkey off our backs in Philly. Things have fallen our way and I expect a parade this year on broad street...GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!
