Phillies hot streak by the numbers

10 days ago the Phillies were not in a happy place. Losers of eight of their last nine games against jugger-nots (like the word play?) like the Mets and Reds, the Phillies were in dead last in the division and 11 games below .500. They were tied for the worst record in the NL and second worst in baseball. We had finally arrived at the official end of the greatest era in Phillies...

Explaining Utley’s Rough June

If you’re reading this post, you’re probably a Phillies fan. If you’re a Phillies fan, you probably love Chase Utley. Therefore, if you are reading this post, you probably love Chase Utley. How’s that for a syllogism, Aristotle? While the Phillies might not have been winning all that much, many of our greatest offseason wishes came to fruition during the first few weeks of...

Potential Landing Spots for Philadelphia Phillies Trade Chips

There is talk around the baseball world that the Philadelphia Phillies are likely going to blow it up between now and the trade deadline at the end of July. The team might be only five games out of first place in the pedestrian NL East, but at six games under .500, there is little hope that Philadelphia will be able to contend down the stretch.  This means that general manager Ruben...

Ryan Howard may or may not listen to Nickelback

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard on allegations by a Braves fan that he listens to Nickelback: “Damn, that’s outrageous. I didn’t know that. Is it bad to listen to Nickelback?” After getting told that yes, it probably wasn’t a good thing to be accused of being a Nickelback listener: “I mean, I’m not afraid to say that I diversify my musical portfolio. I didn’t know...

Season High 18 Hits Propels Phillies to Sweep in Atlanta

Veteran righty Aaron Harang was roughed up by the Phillies, allowing nine runs over five innings, as the Phillies won 10-5 over the Braves. It’s their first sweep in Atlanta since 2011. -The Phillies offense was the story in this one, possibly for the first time since they opened the season in Texas. How about 18 hits and 10 runs? Marlon Byrd hit a homer and the Phillies posted...

Photo AP A.J. Burnett extended the Phillies winning streak to five games, tossing a complete game surrendering just one run and scattering seven hits and one walk en route to a 5-1 win. Cardinals turn to Miller in opener of four-game series with Phillies

Ten days ago, the Philadelphia Phillies were in the cellar of the NL East and falling out of contention in what is shaping up as baseball's most winnable division. With victories in seven of nine, they've found new life as they begin a demanding four-game road series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. Philadelphia (32-38) set itself up for a season-best fourth...

Padres Week 12 Recap

Thursday @ Phillies: 3-7 Loss Philadelphia Game Recap Kyle Kendrick, the same Kyle Kendrick that won just once in his last 18 starts, shut down this struggling offense to the tune of seven base runners and one earned run in six strong innings of action: and that's with three of the first four batters of the game reaching base! The Padres offense was unable to tack on any meaningful...

Phillies win 5th straight behind A.J. Burnett's CG

High-ranking scouts from the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles were on hand to watch A.J. Burnett pitch his first complete game of the season as the sizzling Phillies won again, 5-1, over the St. Louis Cardinals at moth-infested Busch Stadium on Friday night. Burnett is one of those veteran pitchers, like Cliff Lee and Kyle Kendrick, who may be available for a trade if the...

Report: John Mayberry Jr. drawing attention from New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox

It seems like Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. is making a claim for himself to get more playing time but also other teams are starting to take notice. Right now, John Mayberry Jr. is on fire while the Phillies are currently thin in the outfield with Ben Revere and Darin Ruf dealing with injuries and now Tony Gwynn Jr. on bereavement leave. Currently, this season...

Phillies ride hot bats to road sweep of Braves

The heat can do funny things to the mind. So on a day when the temperature at Turner Field was 90 degrees and climbing at first pitch, you had to wonder: Is this real, or is it some shimmering mirage meant to tease fans who hope for a meaningful summer of baseball in Philadelphia? The Phillies spent three days in Dixie not only sweeping a three-game series from the Atlanta Braves...

Phillies Have 'Reached Out' To Grady Sizemore

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Philadelphia Phillies have shown interest in Grady Sizemore. Heyman claims that there 'other' teams in on Sizemore as well. The outfielder was let go by the Red Sox this week after hitting just .216 for The Carmine Hose. Boston had signed Sizemore to a $750,000 contract. It's likely someone will give him—at best—a minor league deal.
