The Red Sox had lost 4 games in a row and if they had any chance to not make it 5 losses in a row, Clay Buchholz would have to once again behave as the defacto ace and stopper.  That is just what he did.  Buchholz didn't get the win, but he was the difference in this game bringing the Sox to their first win in what seemed like forever.  Clay Buchholz took the mound and not only didn't give up any runs in the first inning, he didn't give up a run until the 6th.  Clay just kept putting up zero after zero.  He looked sharp and in control.  It's amazing in comparison of the guy we saw on the mound earlier in the season.  Right now, Buchholz is clearly the guy leading that staff.  Let's hope Lester and Beckett follow his lead.  Buchholz did have a 1-0 lead until the 6th inning when he had the only hiccup of his outing.  Clay gave up a double to Andrus and then on a wild pitch Andrus went to 3rd base with only one out.  Hamilton hit a sac grounder to score Andrus and ...

Recap: Unlikely offense leads Red Sox past Rangers

Just like Ben Cherington drew it up in the offseason, RBIs from Kelly Shoppach and Mike Aviles led to Boston's only offense in a pitcher's duel in Arlington. Clay Buchholz threw yet another strong start. He stifled the Rangers' offense to four hits over seven innings. He did give up one run, and had some command issues, allowing three walks. He also didn't dominate...

Pedro Ciriaco Relies on Bunting to Survive in the Majors, Spark Boston's Offense

NEW YORK –– Bunting is a habit for Pedro Ciriaco. Whether there are runners in scoring position or no men on the bags, the 6-foot, 170-pound utility man never hesitates to drop down a bunt. It's become a regular occurrence since the Red Sox called up Ciriaco on July 6. But there's a method to his madness. While Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine occasionally directs him...

Will Middlebrooks Returns to Texas as 'Homecoming King,' But Red Sox Don't Enjoy Same Success (Video)

Will Middlebrooks had a fun time in Texas. The rest of the Red Sox, not so much. Boston dropped a tough loss on Wednesday to the Rangers, ending a road trip through the Lone Star state on a bad note. Middlebrooks, however, enjoyed a return to his hometown state by batting .500 over the course of the three games. If only the rest of the Sox offense was as hot. In any case, NESN Nation...

Feldman had struggled this season but the Red Sox made him look like Cy Young last night in a 9-1 loss. The only run the Red Sox would manage off of Feldman over his seven innings was a Jarrod Saltalmacchia solo home run in the 2nd...

Ichiro says he is looking forward to the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry

The rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees is arguably the most heated and historic in all of sports. When thinking about it, images of Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez brawling or Pedro Martinez tossing Don Zimmer probably race through your head. Is it possible to fit Ichiro into the equation? The former Mariners outfielder says he is looking forward to it. “When I watched those...

Injuries to AL East Foes Proving Red Sox Aren't Only Ones Dealing With Bad Luck (Video)

For a while, it felt like the Red Sox were being singled out. Boston's dealt with its fair share of injuries in the 2012 season, but as the year goes on, more and more teams are dealing with many of the same problems. The Yankees will be without Alex Rodriguez for a while and the Blue Jays are now coming to grips to life without catcher J.P. Arencibia. That means that not only...

The July 31 trade deadline is quickly approaching. With the second wild card added this year, many teams that normally wouldn't be in contention find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt and the competition for help is getting fierce. The Red Sox may be a .500 team entering Wednesday, but with a new arm in the rotation, they could make a run at a postseason berth. Josh...

Red Sox Trade Targets: Going Fishin’

No.  Charlie Moore will not be making a guest appearance anywhere in this column.  Sorry to disappoint all those loyal NESN viewers out there.  And while this article will deal mostly with the Miami Marlins roster, I’ll do my best to refrain from employing endless fishing clichés. The Red Sox have encountered some rough waters [...]
